6 NCSC Project Goals To develop a comprehensive system of technically defensible summative assessments supported by Evidence-based curriculum and instruction Comprehensive professional development To ensure that students with significant cognitive disabilities achieve increasingly higher academic outcomes and leave high school ready for post- secondary options (college and career ready) 6

7 NCSC Assessment Status Pilots/field tests of ELA and math items with volunteer teachers and one of their students occurred Spring 2014 Census field tests of complete forms in one content area (either ELA or math) per student will occur October 20─November 14, 2014 Operational assessment in ELA and math will occur during a 4 to 6 week window (March- April) 2015

8 NCSC Operational Test Operational Test of ELA and math will be conducted Spring 2015 – Grades 3-8 (ages 8-13) – Grade 11 (age 16) Results will be included in the calculations for federal accountability

9 SC-Alt Science and Social Studies SC-Alt will continue to be used for Science and Social Studies for the 2015 administration Biology will be administered at age 16 beginning with the 2016 administration. SC-Alt biology will not be administered in 2015 as this cohort of students will have met their science requirement in 2014. The SCDE will begin developing extended standards or a support guide aligned to the 2014 science standards this year.
