We relocated from Pico Rivera California in 2006 to San Jacinto which is about 80 miles east of Los Angeles. I started working for Montebello Unified School District in Montebello California in 1981. I worked in kindergarten for 14 years as a bilingual aide. I transferred into Head Start Programs and then into Special Education in 1996 and I love it. When we moved in 2007 I started work for Hemet Unified School District and I still work in Special Education.

I am trained to give medication, oxygen trained, magnet trained, seizure trained and everything else that goes with the severely handicap special education. I want to be a teacher now because I have been an aide for a long time. I wish that I would have taken classes many years earlier but I guess that it is never too late. Since I have been working for Hemet Unified School District I have found that speaking Spanish is an advantage for me. My background began in a bilingual setting so I would like to be educated so that I could teach to the best of my abilities. I want to teach special education I love the students

I am always differentiating work for students because of the class I work in. When you work in special education the teaching strategies will need to be modified daily. I have been applying everything I have learned in one way or another. Most of our teaching strategies for ELL students work well with my student population. We have a wide range of academic levels and Spanish speaking families

I am taking this class because California has the strictest tests for becoming a teacher. I need to take the CBEST, the CSET and the RICA tests which are all required to become a teacher. I need to be the best I can, so that I can be successful for these tests.

I am 56 years old and I believe that if I am going to reach for a higher education I should also pursue a Master’s Degree. I want to teach special education in a moderate to severe high school setting. I hope that there will be jobs when I graduate. I love what I do but it is time for me to become a teacher. I have 3 units to go and I cannot wait to be finished. Good Luck to us all. SI SE PUEDE
