2 Romanticism Showed deep interest both in nature and in the thoughts and feelings of the individual; they turned from reason to emotion, from society to nature

3 Realism Tried to show life how it is, not how it should be; reflected the political importance of the working class in the 1850s and the struggles they were undergoing

4 Impressionism Instead of showing life as it really is, they tried giving their impression of a subject or a moment of time; used pure, shimmering colors to capture a moment seen in a glance

6 What to Do: 1.Title and Group Members 2.Biography of your person 3.Pick 2 works by your person and be able to EXPLAIN how they fit into the romantic, realist, impressionist, or nationalist music era. If you have an author/poet, you must find an excerpt from your person and explain it to the class. If you have a musical composer, you must play a clip and explain why it is considered nationalistic.
