CINDY TEMPLE

Growing Up I grew up in Pennsylvania and attended a small rural school district. In 1989, I graduated with 116 students and then attended Bloomsburg University.

My Air Force Career After a year a college I decided I needed a change from PA so I joined the US Air Force. For six of my twelve years in the Air Force I taught airman to be leaders and supervisors. I enjoyed teaching adults but not half as much as children. After medically retiring I started to continue with my education to reach my first goal of being an elementary teacher.

My Teaching Experience  North Dakota: I started back to school at Minot State University. I also substituted with Pre-K/Special Education and general education with the Minot Public School District  South Dakota: I continued my education and graduated in May 2010 from Black Hills State University  During that time I substituted at the Douglas School District.  My teacher practicum and student teaching was in a kindergarten class, third grade, and preschool special education  August of 2010 to June 2014 I taught preschool special education at Russian Jack Elementary, Anchorage Alaska  Presently I am a Preschool special education teacher with the Prince William County School District in Virginia

My Goal I love teaching younger children especially with Special Needs. Earning my graduate degree will help me continue teaching young children reach their full potential.

Reaching my Goal  I had completed 50% of my graduate degree when we moved to Virginia.  I was able to use the knowledge I had learned to develop a portfolio to secure the job I have today.  Four classes that I found to be the most helpful were 21 st Century Teaching, Assessments, Assisting Students with Technology, and Early Childhood Methods.

Action Research  This past fall I starting teaching for the Prince William County School District in Virginia. Even though I was still teaching preschool special education their were many problems that I encounter during the first few months of the school year.  By using an action research plan I was able to work with my paraprofessionals to find the root cause to our classroom management problem during the first twenty minutes of class.  Everyday I use the tools we implemented and I am thankful for learning how to conduct an action research plan! That is one tool in my toolbox I will definitely use again.

Nine-tenths of education is encouragement. Anatole France
