Anecdote: Years ago, I would come home from school, throw down my heavy book bag, grab and snack and run for the door to go play with my friends only to be stopped in my tracks by my mother’s stern look. That look meant, “Oh no you won’t go outside to play before you do your homework.” I hated that look, and I hated being the only kid not running the homemade bases of our neighborhood kickball game in the street. My mother was a teacher, so there was no way I could play until all of my homework was done.

My mother always said, “What you put in is what you get out.” I have learned that this quotation is especially true when it comes to homework.
