Teacher’s Model Question/Topic: Should homework be banned? Students need homework grades to help boost possible low test/quiz grades. Homework should NOT be banned. Homework should NOT be banned. Homework should be banned. Students need to practice skills learned in class so that they don’t forget them. Set the Scene: 1.Visualize homework papers floating down streets of every town in America. 2.Imagine never having to make up another lame excuse for why you didn’t do your homework. 3.Picture how happy the world would be if we never had to do homework again. Ask a Question: 1. What if no child in America ever had homework?

Teacher’s Model: Continued Question/Topic: Should homework be banned? Students need homework grades to help boost possible low test/quiz grades. Homework should NOT be banned. Homework should NOT be banned. Homework should be banned. Students need to practice skills learned in class so that they don’t forget them. Q and A: 1.Who invented homework? Probably someone with nothing else to do. Three Words: Harvard. Princeton. Yale. You surely will not be able to attend one of these colleges without the benefits of regular homework while in lower grades.

Anecdote: Years ago, I would come home from school, throw down my heavy book bag, grab and snack and run for the door to go play with my friends only to be stopped in my tracks by my mother’s stern look. That look meant, “Oh no you won’t go outside to play before you do your homework.” I hated that look, and I hated being the only kid not running the homemade bases of our neighborhood kickball game in the street. My mother was a teacher, so there was no way I could play until all of my homework was done.

Facts/Data: The number of students who don’t do homework regularly increases each decade. The rate of students who study at home with homework decreases each second. The reports of students improving homework habits goes down each month. The amount of homework goes up each day.

Quote It! “Never give up.” I have seen that quote printed on so many posters before. It really makes sense that when I have an enormous amount of homework, I shouldn’t give it. It will pay off. “Don’t worry, be a happy”, is a catchy tune that I heard someone sing. He must not have had a lot of homework. My mother always said, “What you put in is what you get out.” I have learned that this quotation is especially true when it comes to homework.
