1 Their Eyes Were Watching God Chapter 1
Dialect Their Eyes Were Watching God Chapter 1

2 Writing Style Dialect is the distinctive speech pattern of a particular region, class, or race. It has a distinct and well-developed system of grammar vocabulary, and pronunciation. Allows authors to create a realistic story, believable characters, and an authentic-feeling setting.

3 Hurston’s Dialect Hurston collected African-American folk tales while conducting research as an anthropologist. She developed a system to convert many of these spoken tales to a written form of the black dialect. Hurston did not believe this perpetuated a negative stereotype, but reflected a musical and poetic language which is natural in the African-American culture.
