2 GED CLASSES @ THE LOUISA CENTER Free Classes Classes are held @ The LCPS Alternative Education Center: 815 Davis Highway Mineral, VA 23117 Tuesday and Thursday Mornings from 9am-12noon Tuesday and Thursday Evenings from 5:30-8:30pm 540-894-4373 ex 8715 or 1-434-245-2817

3 SUBJECT MATTER Reasoning through Language Arts Mathematical Reasoning –algebra, geometry, data/probabilities/measurements/graphs/ percentages/fractions, etc. Reasoning through Science Reasoning through Social Studies Computer usage

4 Career Pathways (Learning Links) Career Pathways is designed to connect learned classroom skills and the world of work: HumanMetrics – Learn about your personality to help understand how you learn and what careers might fit best for you Vark-Learn.com – Learn what type of learner you are; VISUAL or HANDS-ON. Take the assessment to learn about your learning style Virginia Wizard – A site to help you with questions about your future: choose a career, get information about pursuing your career, explore college options. You must register, but it is free Win Software Login Page – career-readiness software for students provided to us by PVCC. Online lessons help students prepare for taking the exam for the Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) Student accounts are free, but GED® teachers need to apply for them on behalf of their students

5 PluggedInVA Thomas Jefferson Adult and Career Education in partnership with PVCC, the Workforce Center and local employers- PLUGGEDIN VA PluggedInVA is a supportive educational program that prepares adult learners with knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the workforce and college. The program offers comprehensive training focusing on positions that require customer service skills: Customer Service training and national certification 9 credits through Piedmont VA Community College Virginia Career Readiness Certification Computer skills and certification Career exploration and tools for workplace success Intensive 5 day schedule with supportive instructors Meetings and workshops with local employers

6 The New GED® EXAM Cost $30 per test ($10 for retakes) Computer-based Register directly on line at www.ged.com orwww.ged.com www.adultslearn.org Scores range from 100 to 200 and 150 is considered passing. Students receive their GED® credentials after passing all four exams. Writing is required on 3 of the exams

7 The New GED® Exam Continued Essay on the Reading Language Arts Extended response on Science Extended Response on Social Studies Testers will need a variety of basic computer skills called Digital Literacy

9 Skills Needed to pass the GED® Using a mouse and keyboard/scrolling down a page Reading a text on a computer screen Dragging & dropping answers into a graph or chart Navigating between tabs to read passages Typing one word or extended responses Working with interactive images such as a graph

12 The GED® Test Offers Two score levels GED® passing score high school equivalency- level skills and abilities GED® Passing score with honors @ higher than minimum need to demonstrate Career & College Readiness (CCR) Soon after exams testers have access to their scores and a printed report about each area in need of improvement.

13 How We Operate Louisa County Adult & Career Education is a part of the Thomas Jefferson Adult & Career Education of Charlottesville, VA. Louisa County is a member of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District; therefore, Thomas Jefferson Adult & Career Education gets its name. We are funded by Federal and State Grants with in-kind from the Louisa County Public Schools.
