1 Rosemont High School Senior Project 2016-2017 Overall Information

2 Senior Project Overview As you are well aware, you must complete and pass all four portions of Senior Project in order to graduate (SCUSD requirement) ◦ Presentation/Product  The product is the physical proof of your project  You must have a Power Point for your presentation ◦ Portfolio ◦ Paper

3 Senior Project Guidelines The project must be personally challenging For volunteering ideas, see the handout for a list of websites The project must be independently completed The project must take a minimum of 15 hours LEAD students must have 30 hours If you are interested in holding a position on the PTSA Board, fundraising for an academy/club, or continuing some other “legacy” project, please see Ms. Siegert

4 Senior Project Guidelines If you are interested as working as a peer-aide for a student in our Autism program while in an elective class such as Choir, Culinary, or Digital Imaging, please see Ms. Nevarez or Ms. Stevenson ◦ This is not a 15-hour project; it would run from October through at least the end of the 1 st semester (or perhaps into 2 nd semester) and you would be responsible for assisting the student with everything from note-taking to hands-on activities to daily requirements

5 Senior Project Guidelines There must be evidence in the form of photos/videos of the process of you completing the project If your project includes food, there must be a catering element included ◦ The rigor of all food projects will be verified by Chef Scott ◦ There must be evidence of you making the food multiple times ◦ Samples of food must be provided for judges Projects/games/performances that take place on campus must have a staff supervisor present and must receive approval from the plant manager, Mr. Vega, for use of certain facilities

6 Senior Project Proposal In order to be approved, you must submit the three forms and the Letter of Intent at the same time Early Approval is due by Wednesday, June 1 st at 3pm ◦ Senior Project Proposal Page ◦ Outside Mentor  Your mentor can be a family member  Your mentor cannot be a graduate from RHS 2016 ◦ Parent Permission  Even if you are 18, your parent must sign ◦ Letter of Intent  Must be typed and in business letter format Regular Approval is due by Wednesday, October 12 th

7 Senior Project Proposal You will be notified through your English class by Monday, June 6 th if your Proposal has been approved or denied If you are denied, you will receive a written reason why as well as a Resubmission form Resubmissions for early approval are due by Thursday, June 9 th Once you are approved, be sure to keep your original forms because they are a part of your portfolio

8 Senior Project : The Presentation The presentation is where you showcase what you completed for Senior Project You have 3 options of when you give your presentation (specific dates TBA) ◦ December 14 th -15 th  Sign-ups will take place in November ◦ March 14 th -15 th  Sign-ups will take place in February ◦ May 1 st -May 12 th  Sign-ups will take place in March

9 Senior Project: The Product Your product is a part of your presentation; it is the physical evidence you show A Power Point (this needs to be a combination of text, pictures and/or video) Your PPT should create the overall structure of your presentation A performance (song on the guitar, etc.), your physical product (art pieces, etc.), and picture boards in addition to PPT can be included as well

10 Senior Project: The Research Paper This element of your Senior Project needs to be included in your portfolio, but it is counted as a separate portion in your 1 st semester English 12 class You cannot pass the 1 st semester of English 12 without passing the research paper Your paper needs to be 6 pages minimum (MLA format, typed and double-spaced, including Works Cited page) You need at least five outside sources. ◦ If you do not have in-text citations and a Works Cited page, the paper will automatically fail.

11 Senior Project: The Portfolio The portfolio is where all of your materials and paperwork related to your senior project are showcased. You should use a binder as your physical portfolio There are mandatory items and optional items for your portfolio ◦ See handout for specific portfolio requirements

12 Overall We want you to pass! ◦ In the past 10 years of Senior Projects, no student has failed if s/he truly completed a project and all required portions ◦ The only students who have not passed are those who chose not to complete the project itself or chose not to complete all of the portions
