5 Login Form Open Login form Enter User ID and Password, then Submit On successful login you can optionally change your password, select the active Workzone of those assigned, and then start the inspection Process

6 End User Manager Accounts Users assigned as Group managers will have access to a Manager form for adding users, assigning passwords and workzones. Managers can assign other users to be co- managers or a reviewer

7 On Login and Start Inspection On successful login and workzone selection; progress details are displayed for that zone If user is a manager, overall project stats will be available. These automatically refresh every 2 mins On Start Inspection; Edit tools become available, map zooms to the workzone extent, the extent view control becomes available and Edit Call table control appears

8 On Start Progressive Inspection Mode Progressive Inspection is a tool to systematically review all imagery in a project On Start PI; Map zooms to the next sequential unreviewed tile, advance to next tile becomes available and zoom to active tile appears Note: advance to next tile can also be triggered by any key press while the cursor is on imagery during PI mode.

9 Magnifier tool Double Click on the imagery to bring up a magnifier at that location Click and drag to relocate. Double Click again to turn it off Zoom level is adjustable, default is 4x. Magnifier will not zoom in beyond the project defined limit

10 Mensuration tools Click on the ruler icon to activate the measurement tool - Click again to turn it off Select type of measurement and desired units. Double click to end a line or area measurement - Click type again to turn off measurement mode

11 Making an Edit Call Click on pencil to start the edit tool. On completion a dialog box appears to allow for adding a comment or revising the Call type. Comments can be saved for re-use by clicking the + star. Saved comments can be recalled by selecting the saved comment off the drop down list. List can be purged by clicking the – star. List persists between sessions. Select polygon shape (rectangle, polygon or circle). Select Edit call type to activate collection Collect a rectangle or a circle around the feature with a click and drag. Collect polygon with single clicks and double click to finish.

12 Compare to alternate source imagery or other map service If a feature is questionable, you can view another imagery source to compare. Select the swipe tool and drag the slider across the map display. Swipe source is user definable. Click icon to deactivate. Hint: Set the swipe layer in custom settings to “Surdex” and the swipe layer will be the Color IR bands if availalble

13  Note: Edit calls do not need to be restricted to the current tile. You may free roam the entire imagery area and place calls. You may though only mark tiles as reviewed within the active work zone assigned.

14 Edit call review table To review previous calls click on the Edit Call Table button on bottom of map then select a record to automatically drive to and review the call. Edit call will be highlighted. Standard users can only invalidate their own calls. A manager can invalidate any calls. A reviewer can tag a corrected call as accepted or rejected.

15 Utilities Custom Settings allows user to set their own Swipe and Basemap Layers, and also add custom layers from alternate map services. Settings changes are applied after reloading the site. Help menu provides basic instructions for most options.

16 Utilities – cont’d Export edit calls allows managers to locally save either a shape file or an excel compatible csv file of the edit call data. Histogram provides a visual display of the current extent’s luminosity ranges.

17 Utilities – cont’d Layer list allows user to toggle visibility and adjust opacity of the standard layers.

18 Examples of what to look for when inspecting and what is normal and not correctable Correctable Issue: Road mismatch at image seams Good inspection requires some general knowledge of how objects appear in aerial photographs, familiarity with the project area, accuracy requirements and the limitations of the resolution provided.

19 Non- correctable Issue: Shadows Non- correctable Issue: Minor Building lean

20 Correctable Issue: Building distortion due to seamline passing through building Non-correctable Issue: Tower lean – unless a tower or pole is immediately beneath the camera at exposure, some lean will appear. Same is true with buildings or other features elevated from the natural terrain.

21 Non-correctable Issue: Black Specs – actually Cattle, resolution too course to clearly identify Non-correctable Issue: Smoke from factories or power plants

22 Non-correctable Issue: Color mismatch on bodies of water – usually cannot be avoided due to different exposure dates of the seamed images Non-correctable Issue: Variation of color between bodies of water.

23 Non-correctable Issue: Color mismatch in water due to different sun angle reflection between flight lines Non-correctable Issue: Natural variations of color in water bodies

24 Non-correctable Issue: Temporary features – ie: tarp on roof Non-correctable Issue: Building roof lines appear distorted. Various angles and shapes of roofs can make buildings appear distorted, but rarely is the case.

25 Correctable Issue: Overpasses can be warped because the terrain model hugs the ground. Correctable Issue: Bridge warp or stretch

26 Correctable Issue: Clouds and cloud shadows if alternate image frame is available. Non-Correctable Issue: Minor color balance at seam is off. May not be entirely avoidable. Most likely due to date difference between the 2 images seamed together.

27 Correctable Issue: Significant image warp due to inadequate DEM. Correctable Issue: White pixel gap

28 Non-correctable Issue: Elevated power lines over water Non-correctable Issue: Elevated power lines broken due to image seam

29 Non-correctable Issue: Moving vehicle partially missing due to seamline Non-correctable Issue: Railcar mismatch due to seam

30 Non-correctable Issue: Pavement change on road

31 Non-correctable Issue: Farmer plowing field Non-correctable Issue: Plow lines in fields

32 Non-correctable Issue: Moisture differences in soil Non-correctable Issue: Differences in fields

33 Inspection Hints  Zoom out if object is questionable. Does it appear to relate to other objects? (follows a road or transmission line, ends at a building or body of water, etc)  Primarily you will be looking for image mismatches at seams, image blurring or distortion, significant clouds or cloud shadows and objectionable reflections or glare off of objects.  Objects significantly off the terrain will be horizontally displaced from their true vertical location. This cannot be corrected in most cases.
