Why do we need to have a District Club Building Committee? We need Exchangites who are passionate about club building to engage other Exchangites in their district by offering encouragement, motivation, training, and insight and practical direction in the area of club building. In other words, we need a “voice” for club building in our districts. A successful District Club Building Committee will accomplish this…and grow.

Who should be on this District Club Building Committee?

How does the District Club Building Committee function? Establish a vision of service for your district that includes all clubs. That can only be done by those who step up and go beyond the committee meeting. Probably for most districts this suggests a culture change that my include you. After all it is from the “choir” that we may have to draw such dedicated individuals because of the dedication that you have already shown. How does this committee function? Of course the should follow the book which includes: Conduct a New Club Building Task Force Organizational Meeting – sounds impressive, but what are you really doing? Identifying a Sponsor Club – which really means establishing club builder(s) Report progress to district board – this is obvious, but there can be more to this than just reporting Communicating with current club builders on their current projects in order to offer assistant and remind club builders of the resources that are always available. (reference Lake Havasu Conference Call Task Force)

Encouraging, Motivating and Guiding

So, what “tough” questions on club building should your committee members expect to answer? Why build clubs? Why should I be involved? Be ready to always defend club building to Exchangites who may erroneously think that new clubs take potential members away from the sponsoring club. How does one get started in building clubs? What is the process? How does a club builder get trained or how do they learn about club building? What is a sponsoring club’s responsibility? How will my District help me? How do you even start? What is a forming meeting like? When do you hold your first official meeting for the new club? Who is responsible for the money? I am not confident in handling the money…how is the money managed? How do you get the new temporary club officers to take charge? What is involved in building a Excel Club? A Collegiate Club? A networking club? What is a “Special Friends Club?” How can I engage my own club members from the sponsoring club to help with the new club? Others

Something to consider!!!
