Comments ACT reports on the national average of student performance by graduating class The results in this presentation are for Nevada 11 th graders in 2015 These students are in the graduating class of 2016 The results presented here have not been validated with Nevada’s LEAs When ACT produces their report for the graduating class of 2016, the results will be different than those presented here. (ACT graduating class report includes the results of students who took the test as a sophomore, junior or senior and indicated their graduation date of 2016. Scores in the ACT graduating class report reflect students’ most recent test results)

Participation Impact on Composite Score There is a negative association between the Percent of Graduates Tested and Average Composite Score on the ACT That is, as the percentage of graduates tested increases, the ACT composite score decreases – In 2014, the correlation between these two values was -0.77 The impact on the Nevada 2015 ACT Composite Score is similar to that seen in other states when they moved to a full state-wide participation.

8. In 2014, 7169 students took the ACT and 1815 (25.3%) met all four of the college readiness benchmarks. In 2015, 29,554 students took the ACT and 2443 (8.2%) met all four of the college readiness benchmarks In 2015, 628 more students in Nevada, met all four of the college and career readiness benchmarks.

11. How many students met at least one of the ACT CCR benchmarks? Over 10,100 met the benchmark score in English (5030*) 5900 met the benchmarks in Math and Reading (M-3560*, R-3640*) 3800 met the benchmark in science (2863*) 2443 met the benchmarks in all four areas (1815*) * # of students meeting benchmark 2014

15. State Interest Questions As part of preparation to take the ACT, students answer questions about their high school preparation and future plans. There is also an opportunity for the state to include a small number of questions to collect additional information.

16. How ready are they for success? 41% of students think that middle school prepared them for success in high school 40% of students think that their high school has prepared them for life after graduation.

17. How they are learning? Over 55% indicate that they regularly use technology to get information and complete tasks. 55% also report that good writing is considered to be important in all of their classes, not just in English.

21. The final good news 82% of students indicated that they thought that continuing their education beyond high school was important to their future.

More information Additional detail(s) will be available when the results are validated by the school districts ACT produces an annual “State of College and Career Readiness” report for each graduating class, which will be available later this summer for the Class of 2015. ACT will produce a final report on the results of the 2015 Grade 11 test (Graduating Class of 2016) in August of 2016.
