Students will be able to understand the changing views of women through text by looking at two different texts across centuries and analyzing stereotypes/concepts. 1. 3 FOA Book Talks Please complete the guide as we complete our book talks! You will pick your next book based off of these recommendations so please make sure to pay attention to ones that catch your attention!

4 Political Cartoons Form a group with different political cartoons and discuss your findings. Be ready to share out with the class any interesting points about any of the pictures. Submit when you are done!

8 Formal Comparison Compare the following texts: ● How the Good Wife Taught Her Daughter- a 14 th century “ conduct” poem that was popular in the middle ages (you will have to navigate through the dialect and language which is specific to the time period---see if any of the words and phrases have remained the same) ● The Good House Wife's Guide from a 1950's home economics textbook intended for high school girls Tasks: 1. Highlight key words/phrases that depict the values/attitudes placed on women (5 pts.) 2. Provide commentary in the margins in regards to what you have highlighted or discussed within your groups. (5 pts.) 3. Create a Venn diagram comparison chart that compares and contrasts the two literary pieces and the attitudes/values placed on women today. Answer the question: What are some of the expectations of women from each time period?

9 The Next Step ● In comparing these two texts, you may have noticed how the words in the passages are a reflection of the attitudes held about the expectations of women -What were some of the ideas/comments you made about each text? Share your discussion points. -What were some words/phrases that alert you about the attitudes about women from each passage?
