1 RPI CONTRIBUTION FROM THE UBC I2SIM/DRNEP GROUP Presented in CANARIE Research Software Developer's Workshop Prepared by Dr. José Martí, William Wang

2 Part 1 SOS Adaptor Partner: Ocean Networks of Canada (ONC)/Neptune and University of Calgary. Sensor Observations Services (SOS) – one of the sensor data specifications from The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Sensor Web Enablement(SWE). ONC publishes their sensor data in SOS format. Disaster Response Network Enabled Platform (DRNEP) receives, parses and stores the information using the SOS adaptor.

3 Part 2 Damage Assessment DR-NEP takes the earthquake information that is received from the SOS adaptor and combine with shake maps and the building information from the impact area to calculate the capacity curves, fragility curves, demand curves, and etc. Based on the curves, DR-NEP using the algorithm extracted from Hazus (developed by The Federal Emergency Management Agency‘s (FEMA’s) ) to make damage assessment for buildings and other infrastructure assets (bridges, power stations) in the impact area. These damage assessment will then feed in to the core simulation tools in DR-NEP – I2Sim to optimize the disaster response management.
