3 Who is the protagonist and what is he or she like? Protagonist : the main character of the movie  Not necessarily one person (can be 2-3)  Physical description  Personality  Psychology  Abilities / aptitude Slide 4

4 What is the conflict that is driving the protagonist to act? Conflict is a turning point in the movie which makes the protagonist change the way s/he acts Describe protagonists character leading to a conflict  Personality  Qualities  Weaknesses/ Strengths Slide 5

5 Is there a backstory or a subplot? If so, describe one of them. Backstory: the supporting characters’ story Subplot: Other small stories helping the big story move Slide 6

6 Describe the most important action that the protagonist takes in order to try to solve the conflict. What does the main actor do to fix the problem/conflict (Go back to Slide 5)? Give details of the action, characters in it, the impact- positive or negative. Slide 7

11 Describe how the devices of fiction such as symbol, foreshadowing, flashback, irony affect plot progression, assist in character development or convey meaning. Theme: general background supporting the story – Sacrifice, Brotherhood Symbol: Objects that have an important impact in the story – Diaries Foreshadowing: An event which predicts another one  The writer mentions people sacrificing their blood for others => Iya does the right thing too telling the truth in the court. Flashback: Going back to the past to build connections between events Irony: Saying something but meaning something else that everybody but the character understands Slide 12

Archetype: A perfect example of something; a commonly recognized image, a type of a person, character or behaviour.  Hero: Iya – telling the truth, becoming friends with others, leaving her pride behind  Mentor: Yasaman – sacrificing her life, trying to teach the best attitudes to her students, doing her best to bond them to each other  Trickster: Hatice – being friendly as first, but later getting jealous and trying to backstep the teacher
