3 What is volume? And how is it different than area? Area is the # of square units it takes to cover something. (2 dimensional) Volume is the # of cubic units it takes to fill something. (3 dimensional)

4  Prism: a 3-dimensional figure named for the shape of its bases. A prism has 2 bases. The 2 bases are congruent. (equal) EX. A box  Cylinder: has two circular bases. EX. A soda can

6  To find the volume of a prism, multiply the area of the base (B) times the height (h) of the prism.  We have to find the area of the base 1 st, (area formulas) then multiply by the height.  “B” will change depending on the shape of the base of the prism.
