4 Support available for students with financial difficulties Advice, guidance and information as to financial support: Access to Learning Fund Financial assistance Emergency loans Scholarship applications

5 Support available for students – mental health issues Initial assessment appointments are available to book for the next 5 working days (these half hour appointments are to get an idea of what the issues are and to discuss what we can offer, they are not a therapy session). 1-to-1 Individual therapy sessions and group programmes 6 sessions approach Student Wellbeing Therapists offer counselling, CBT, Solution Focussed therapy etc for students with emotional and psychological difficulties.

6 Consultancy Service – available for staff, students, family etc where someone has a concern about a students mental health. Need a students consent to discuss them but can ring and talk about someone hypothetically. Ring 3333 number and leave details and someone will return call. Mental Health Disability – Students with a mental health diagnosis for over a year or is likely to be over a year e.g. Chronic depression, Anxiety, OCD, Schizophrenia etc. Student Wellbeing Advisor offers ongoing support around accessing education and Reasonable Adjustments.

8 Support available for students with a disability Advice and assessment relating to a range of disabilities University Centre (UCAN) for Assessment of Need (AON’s) for specific study needs and then make recommendations. Disability Advisers: work with a range of disabilities: physical disabilities, general medical disabilities, including unseen disabilities e.g. Crohn’s, chronic fatigue, epilepsy, diabetes, IBS. Make recommendations about Reasonable Adjustments.

9 Support available for students with a disability Dyslexia Advisers: work to support students with a Specific Learning Difficulty (a post 16 Educational Psychologist report is needed or advice can be given on how to obtain one). Make recommendations about reasonable adjustments. A reasonable adjustment is an action which helps to lessen substantial disadvantage. What is reasonable depends on individual circumstances. The factors taken into account include financial resources of institution, practicality of adjustment, interests of relevant people, health and safety and the maintenance of academic standards The university will do its best to put reasonable adjustments into place.

10 UK Student – DSA This whole process takes about 3 months – key message, get students to start this process as early as possible. Student provides evidence of disability to Student Finance England. They agree to pay for an Assessment of Need Student attends an assessment centre (any in country) and has 2 hour assessment. UCAN our one of these Assessor writes an approx. 30 page report with details of recommended Reasonable adjustments With students permission this goes to advisor in Student Wellbeing Service Advisor in Student Wellbeing Services reads report and summarises required adjustment in 1 to 2 page Student Support Recommendation Document. (SSRD) Student sees SSRD and agrees for it to go to the school. If so then sent to school administrator who should disseminate to those academic staff involved in students learning/pastoral care
