What is a Coalition?

q A Coalition is a network of people that work together to achieve a greater goal. q Build your Coalition for the long term. q Work to establish relationship with Coalition members. WHAT IS A COALITION…

Health as Spiritual Matter 3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers.

q We are all called to go and fulfill God’s purpose. q Our bodies (loaned to us, not owned by us )are the vehicles by which we do so. q We are required, by God, to be faithful stewards of these bodies. HEALTH IS A SPIRITUAL MATTER…

The Function of a Health Ministry

Building your Coalition?

 Recruit the right people/organizations to the table.  The group’s objectives will prescribe the type of coalition developed.  Invite interested parties to move the idea of “Health as a Spiritual Matter”, affecting health outcomes.  Identify community partners. BUILDING THE COALITION

THE CONCEPT “HEALTH AS A SPIRITUAL MATTER”…  The key to a successful coalition is the early identification of common goals and benefits of working together.  Present research to support “Health as a Spiritual Matter”  Identify other groups addressing the same issue and how?

Give Him your best Plan for ensuring the Coalition and Health Ministries’ vitality.

GIVE GOD YOUR BEST…  Health ministry’s serve as key influencers in the community’s health.  Coalition + Health Ministries = Elimination of Health Disparities.  Health Resources + Community Partnerships = Lifestyle Changes in the Body of Christ!  Provide training opportunities to build health programs.

We thank God for His many blessings and opportunities that He continues to provide the IHMC.

IHMC ACCOMPLISHMENTS…  Convened in Rochester, NY in 2012  December 2014 – Pastors prayed and released the coalition to do the work as Health Ministers.  Established an Executive Committee and 18 churches are at the table.  Meet monthly to share resources, provide training and to build health ministries.  Partner with Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency for in-kind support.  2015 received a $50,000 grant from the Greater Rochester Health Foundation to continue the work in the Rochester Community.  Hired a part-time Community Health Coordinator  IHMC offers conferences and trainings around health issues in our community.  We assist health ministries to develop their health programs and to apply for grant funding.  We serve the people of God to eliminate health disparities in our community.

Remember, virtually every carefully crafted coalition will have an impact. “An effort may fail, then partially succeed, then falter, and so on. Since mutual trust is built up over a period of time, coalition organizers should avoid getting so caught up in any one effort as to view it as‘ make or break.’ Every effort (at cooperation among groups) prepares the way for greater and more sustained efforts in the future.” Coalitions consist of people. Therefore, shared efforts leave us with surprises, memories, and mutual respect. COLLABORATION IS THE KEY
