3 Who needs it and who cares?? **Please note **This unit will not certify you to administer first aid or CPR to anyone, you must take a course with a certified instructor

15 Protection of certain persons from action 3. Where, in respect of a person who is ill, injured or unconscious as the result of an accident or other emergency, (a)a physician or registered nurse, voluntarily and without expectation of compensation or reward, renders emergency medical services or first aid assistance, and the services or assistance are not rendered at a hospital or other place having adequate medical facilities and equipment; or (b)a person other than a person mentioned in paragraph (a) voluntarily renders emergency first aid assistance, and that assistance is rendered at the immediate scene of the accident or emergency, the physician, registered nurse or other person is not liable for damages of injuries to or the death of that person alleged to have been caused by an act or omission on his or her part in rendering the medical services or first aid assistance, unless it is established that the injury or death was caused by gross negligence on his or her part.

17 First aid is the first help or treatment that an injured or ill person receives before medical help. The aims of first aid are: To Preserve life To Prevent deterioration of the casualty's condition To Promote recovery This is known as the three P's to first aid

18 Wash your hands Wear vinyl or latex gloves Handle sharp objects carefully Minimize mouth to mouth contact Face mask Have a one way valve Be disposable or have a disposable valve Be stored in an easily accessible place
