7 Community of Learners Throughout the teaching modules With your advisor and others who are being advised by the same staff member

8 Professional Inquiry Advisors Alison and Tracy will be providing support for the taught component. In addition to this, each student will be appointed an advisor. The advisor’s role will be to support the student in the early stages of their professional inquiry project and to offer them specialised advice and guidance specific to the area of their focus as they progress through their inquiry. Students will be expected to ‘take charge’ of their professional inquiry which will include keeping in regular contact with their advisor and their inquiry community of practice Students may request an adviser, but must choose an area for their inquiry that fits into the research interests of inquiry staff.

9 Julia Budd I am interested in any research undertaken with those who are blind or have low vision and how equitable education services can be provided for this population. In particular, I have an interest in helping learners who are blind or have low vision understand and move within their world. Vijaya Dharan I have two areas of interest for inquiry. 1. Assessment, Intervention and Collaboration around children and young persons with autism including those with twice/ multi exceptionalities 2. Practices around student disengagement. Wendy Holley-Boen I am interested in appreciative and ecological research, especially around professional identity, authentic practice and wellbeing. My work focuses on positive psychology and education as they relate to supporting the personal and the professional for young people, families/whanau and educators. Alison Kearney My inquiry interests lie in two areas. The first is related to ‘teacher learning' and particularly how professionals collaborate with teachers to improve educational outcomes for learners. I am also interested in issues of educational equity – that is ensuring that personal circumstances (gender, ethnicity, disability etc) are not obstacles to achieving success in education - and ways that this can be achieved.

10 Jude MacArthur I am interested in how schools can develop as equitable and inclusive communities for all students and their families/whanau. The experiences and rights of children and young people with disabilities in their local school are a particular interest and I would be happy to support students inquiring into aspects of policy development, school culture and teaching practice that contribute to quality learning experiences and positive identities for these students. Mandia Mentis My inquiry interests focus on "anytime, anywhere learning for all" - and the implications of this for teachers and learners. For teachers this involves supporting life-long learning and my wonderings include teaching in a digital age and exploring the affordances of different technologies and tools for teaching in a complex and changing world. For learners this involves personalising the learning experience and my particular interest is in the cognitive approaches of thinking-to-learn and dynamic assessment for change. Tracy Riley I am interested in inquiries related to teaching practices, specifically those that respond to individual strengths, abilities and needs through differentiation. I am also keen to support students inquiring into identifying and providing for learners who may be gifted and talented, including with sensory, learning, physical or behavioural differences.
