2 What is the Career Academy Scholars Program (CASP)? The Career Academy Scholars Program is a program that allows current high school students an opportunity to begin taking college level courses towards one of our six CTE Pathways.

4 CASP Program Benefits Students will be enrolled in a college course at no cost to the student, with the exception of the health fee & student id ($21.50) Textbook/Equipment/Supplies will be provided to the student Students may receive both high school and college credit Students will have a dedicated college counselor

6 CASP Program Requirements Students must have transportation to and from Santa Ana College for classes. Students must have permission from their principal/counselor and parents/guardians. Students must complete the necessary paperwork required: 1. CASP Application 2. Santa Ana College Application 3. CAPP Form (Career Advanced Placement Program) 4. Add Card Students must have a GPA of 2.0 (2.5 GPA Preferred) or above and be in good standing at the high school. Students will need to pay for Santa Ana College health fee and ID Card ($19.50). Students will need to commit to both the Fall 2012 & Spring 2013 semesters. Students must attend a mandatory orientation the week before the start of the semester.

8 Students Who Drop/Stop Attending “W” vs “F”  A students who stops attending the course and or requests to be dropped will receive a “withdraw” from the course. There is a deadline to withdraw from the course A “w” will not affect the students GPA, however the “w” will remain as a permanent record  If a student receives an “F” in the course, his/her academic transcript will be affected by the following ways: GPA will drop Grade will remain permanent until the student retakes the same exact course

11 Students Who Apply  Student will receive email/letter from the CASP Counselor stating their application has been received  If chosen, acceptance letter will be sent out with information about orientation  Students not selected will be contacted by the SAC Representative to determine future interest  Each course will have a waitlist of 5-7 students

12 Fall 2012 Screening Process High School/ROP teacher will refer students to the Higher Education Center coordinator at their school Higher Education Center coordinator or designee will review gpa, attendance pattern, and behavior of student to determine appropriate placement Recommended students will be assisted by SAC Outreach staff with their application packets at the school site CASP Counselor/CASP Instructors will screen applicants and consult with students throughout the selection process. SAC Outreach staff will ensure all application materials are turned into Admissions & Records CASP Counselor will maintain database of students containing demographical and academic information

13 CASP Program Orientation  Every student admitted into the CASP Program must attend a CASP Parent/Student Orientation the week before the start of the semester. Parents are highly encouraged to attend but is not required.  The orientation will cover the following: Introduction of instructor(s). What students can expect from their participation in this program What parents can expect of their students Responsibility of students participating in this program Future benefits of participants Conclusion and Raffle *Fall 2012 Orientation: Wednesday, August 22 nd at 5:45p.m. at SAC
