3 Objectives  Objective: #1 - The students will explain how prior world events influenced "Nationalism" in America.  #2 - The students will describe the relationships America had with other national powers and analyze how it helped shape our growing country.

4 Evidence of understanding After reading, all student should be able to explain:  how nationalism increased because of the War of 1812.  the steps the U.S. took to prevent further conflict with Great Britain.  why Spain ceded (gave) Florida to the U.S.  how the Monroe Doctorine influenced the United States' growth.  how the U.S. map has changed.
