1 2015 ENERGY EXPRESS 1 ST TWO DAYS OUTLINE FOR ORIENTATION Member Development and Paperwork!

2 TRAINING OBJECTIVES  Members will understand AmeriCorps and its connection with Energy Express.  Members will understand AmeriCorps prohibited activities.  Members will understand the Energy Express attendance policy.  Members will understand the dress code, code of conduct and electronic device policy.

3 TRAINING OBJECTIVES  Members will understand the progressive discipline procedure.  Collect and sign necessary paperwork.

4 SUPPLIES  Flip Chart  Markers  Tape  Brown Accordion Folder – date June 11, 2015  Member Handbook  Beach Ball  Corps Design book

5 INTRODUCTION  Introduce yourself and the entire team and really be flattering.

6 TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITIES  That’s Me!  Sentence Stems.  Any other examples that work well?

7 ENERGY EXPRESS FUNDING  30% Local match  Nearly 2 million Dollars from AmeriCorps.

8 INTRODUCTION TO AMERICORPS  This is a great opportunity to show the My AmeriCorps PowerPoint. It can be found on the website.

9 GOALS  These should be put on a flip chart and discussed.  Goal 1 – Getting Things Done.  Goal 2 - Strengthening Communities.  Goal 3 - Encouraging Responsibility.  Goal 4 – Expanding Opportunity.

10 TALK THE TALK  AmeriCorps member not a worker  Living allowance not a payday  Service not work

11 ACTIVITY (VENN DIAGRAM)  Using a Venn Diagram compare the similarities and differences of a Summer Job vs. AmeriCorps  Similarities and differences

12 EXPANDING OPPORTUNITIES  AmeriCorps benefits  Living Allowance - $1850.00  Pay Days are 2 in July and 2 in August.  It is Taxed!  Segal Education Award – $1195.00  Need to successfully complete the program!

13 GETTING THINGS DONE – MOTTO!  Flip chart  How will you as an AmeriCorps member get things done?  How will you strengthen communities?  How does AmeriCorps Strengthen communities?

14 ENCOURAGING RESPONSIBILITY  Why are rules important?  What happens when rules aren’t followed?  How can I, as your site supervisor, help you this summer achieve your goals? Use a Flip Chart

15 AMERICORPS PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES  Fundraising  Religious Proselytizing  Political Activity  Providing benefit or hindering union activity  Aiding a for profit entity  Organizing voter registration drives Consequence: Energy Express could lose its funding!

16 SITE ACTIVITY  The site team will do a skit, song or poem to represent the following policies:  Dress Code  AmeriCorps Prohibited Activities  Member Attendance Policy

17 ATTENDANCE POLICY  Up to 2 days for college orientation for incoming freshman.  Up to 2 days for job interviews for graduating college seniors.  Always get written permission from the State office.  There presence is required each and every day from June 11th through July 31st, 2015.

18 TIMESHEETS  We went over these and a tutorial will be on our website. We are using OnCorps this year.  User Friendly  No Comments are required!  Nothing under FUNDRAISING!

19 DRESS CODE  AmeriCorps T-shirt with a visible logo must be visible while earning service hours. (except at the end of the year reflection celebration)  Shorts and skirts must reach the fingertips. We do a lot of kneeling and sitting on the floor.  For safety reasons, tennis shoes or closed toed shoes are required.

20 ELECTRONIC DEVICE POLICY  All policies are in the member handbook.  All electronic devices are to be turned off and out of site when receiving service hours.  See Exceptions in handbook.

21 CODE OF CONDUCT  Demonstrate respect towards each other.  Follow directions.  Direct concerns and problems to appropriate officials.  Don‘t post any pictures of children/volunteers on any social media outlet. Like wise don’t post any negative or detrimental comments about Energy Express or your site/site team on any social media outlet.

22 CODE OF CONDUCT VIOLATIONS  Unauthorized tardiness  Unauthorized absences  Use of inappropriate language  Failure to wear proper clothing to service assignments.  Failure to complete time sheets accurately and timely.  Engaging in activity that may be physically or emotionally damaging.

23 MEMBER ASSESSMENT  Midterm – 3 rd week  Final – at the end of the program.  Remember this is a toll not a punishment, allow them to grow.

24 PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE  Verbal warning  Written warning  Released for cause * all of these require the involvement of your county contact and the state office.

25 IMMEDIATE RELEASE  Consuming Alcohol or an illegal substance during statewide.  Being charged with or convicted of a violent felony, child abuse, or sex related  Offences or possession or distribution of controlled substance.  When the Program Director deems it is in the best interest of the Program.
