9 9 Summer Jobs +: Opportunities for the Workforce System About Summer Jobs +  Call to action for businesses, non-profits, and government to work together to provide pathways to employment for low-income and disconnected youth (16 to 24 years of age) in the summer of 2012  Goal of reaching 250,000 employment opportunities by the start of summer  No new funds associated with this initiative. No changes to the Workforce Investment Act Youth Program.  Summer Jobs + Bank, a one-stop Internet search tool for youth to access postings for any participating employers - www.dol.gov/summerjobs.www.dol.gov/summerjobs

10 10 Summer Jobs +: Opportunities for the Workforce System About Summer Jobs +  Menu of options from which businesses can choose to assist low-income youth in accessing the skills and opportunities necessary for success in the workforce  Three key ways or “pathways” businesses and organizations can engage in include –Learn and Earn: paid internships and/or permanent positions that provide on-the-job training –Life Skills: soft skills, such as communication, time management and teamwork, including resume writing or interview workshops and mentorship programs –Work Skills: Provide youth insight into the world of work to prepare for employment - job shadow days and unpaid internships
