Romeo and Juliet (Multicultural Views on Marriage and Parent Relationships) Written By: Emily Bertrand

Parent Relationships in Romeo and Juliet Juliet and her parents do not have the best relationship because her parents had given Juliet to Nurse since the day she has been born. Romeo and his parents have a better relationship than Juliet and her parents, but they still don’t communicate as well as they should. When Romeo’s parents saw that he was depressed they sent his cousin, Benvolio, to go see what’s wrong instead of asking themselves.

Capulet's and Juliet Lord Capulet wants Juliet to marry Paris, but he doesn’t want to force her in the marriage right away because she is his only living child. He tells Paris to “woo” her but he shouldn’t be going behind her back to set her up with a guy she does not love. He tells Juliet later on that she must marry Paris otherwise he will disown her. Even though Lord Capulet is forcing Juliet to marry Paris, deep down he really wants what’s best for her.

The Result Juliet’s parents told her they had arranged for her and Paris right after she had just married Romeo. She told her parents she had no intention of marrying Paris, but her parents would not listen to her. Her father said if she did not go through with the marriage and marry Paris, he would disown her.

Conclusion Juliet now has to find a way to get out of the marriage with Paris without her parents disowning her because she is already married to the man she loves, Romeo. Arranged marriages do not do any good for a parent child relationship.

Multicultural Views on Marriage In different cultures parents give their daughters and choose who they are marrying. How does multicultural views on marriage affect parent child relationships?

Arranged Marriages Lead to Suicide Many women in Iraq have been committing suicide because they are being forced to marry men they do not love. Women are realizing they don’t want to follow traditions and they want romance in their life instead. The suicide rate is doubled what the United States rate is.

Arranged Marriages Lead to Suicide Officials in Iraq are making excuses for these suicides and trying not to alarm anyone because they are perplexed on the whole situation. Some excuses the Officials of Iraq have are… poverty, mental health issues, seeing a better life on TV. Some parents believe that it isn’t the arranged marriage causing these suicides, but they believe there is a so called devil inside their child.

Child Marriage One out of every three girls is married before she is eighteen. Reasons for child marriage are poverty, lack of education, etc. These girls receive more domesticated violence then women who marry later. Because of young age, girls are powerless in deciding or fighting/standing up for themselves in these arranged marriage situation. They are more vulnerable to injury and/or death in childbirth.

Effects of Young Marriage When women marry young is affects their health, education, the welfare of the community, employment options, etc. Many women are in poverty because they married young.

What is Being Done to Stop it? Change is happening. The United States has already started helping. The have created the International Protecting Girls by Marriage Act.

In Conclusion…. Arranged marriages are not a good way to maintain a healthy parent child relationship because there are several consequences that can be come of these marriages including suicides and domesticated violence.
