Cellular Device Detection Instructor : Yossi Hipsh Performed by: Smadar Katan Gal Mendelson Project Number: D0517 Winter 2007/8 Semesterial Project Final Presentation

Project Objectives Designing a system that can detect all the activated cellular devices and display their specific locations in a given space.

The Room

Antennas Locations & Dynamic Range θ room

Assumptions There might be more than one active device in the room at the same time. The distance between two active devices in the room is larger than 0.5m’. There are no echoes.

General schematic of the system Our Part

Antenna frequency : Wave length: The Multi-Beam Antenna (MBA) 4 Dipole Antenna Array: 11.6cm 8.5cm

Radiation Pattern

Radiation Pattern (continue…) The angles are: Where

Antenna’s location In order to maintain symmetry we will place the antenna as following: Geometry

Beams’ angles

The Demonstrating Antenna For the demonstrating antenna we chose only two beams. One beam at 0° and the other one at 17°

BFN

The Antenna

General schematic of the system

Computing

Location

Antenna A

Antenna B

Location (continue…)

Simulator - Labview User Interface: The user chooses the power gains in each of the overall 4 beams in this screen

Simulator - Labview The simulation process is then controlled by a "back panel"- the block diagram:

Simulator - Labview There are 4 stages: 1.Receives the user inputs from the front panel 2.Converts to 7 bit binary words (hence simulating the inputs for the calculation unit). 3.Calculation unit: Checks to see that gains are in range and that they agree on a direction. 4.Shows the user the location of the simulated transmission or an error notice.

Simulator - Labview The error notice, in case of false power gains, will pop up as a Matlab graphic object (picture):

Simulator - Labview In case of success:

Conclusions & Suggestions Energy detectors Building all four antennas we planned. Dealing with echoes - time stamps Expanding the Labview simulator - real signals.

We would like to thank all those who helped, and a special thanks to Yossi Hipsh.
