1 EXTENDED METAPHOR POEM

2 EXTENDED METAPHOR POETRY
A metaphor compares two things. (My house is a circus.) Some poetry takes a metaphor and then extends it throughout the poem. My house is a circus. We kids are monkeys bouncing around with no purpose, tightrope walkers balancing on the back legs of chairs. We fly like trapeze artists up and down stairs and like lions we posture before each other. The floor, littered with food and wrappers, is a sticky mess. Music blares, voices bellow, animals whoop for attention; nevertheless, at the center of it all, calmly orchestrating and contentedly busy, stands my mother.

3 And the Rose is his desire.
A MORE ANCIENT MARINER THE swarthy bee is a buccaneer, A burly velveted rover, Who loves the booming wind in his ear As he sails the seas of clover. A waif of the goblin pirate crew, With not a soul to deplore him, He steers for the open verge of blue With the filmy world before him. His flimsy sails abroad on the wind Are shivered with fairy thunder; On a line that sings to the light of his wings He makes for the lands of wonder. He harries the ports of the Hollyhocks, And levies on poor Sweetbrier; He drinks the whitest wine of Phlox, And the Rose is his desire. _____ ____ _________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _________ ______ ______ _____ ____

4 My heart is a purse You should look into it before you go out Looking into it will tell you who I am Inside it holds many things Filled with memories and necessities It helps to beautify me Carried along wherever I go Many people can’t find what they’re looking for but I do right away If empty, it is useless.

5 Reaching up toward the sky
Love is a tree Reaching up toward the sky It blossoms at the sight of your radiant face It roots itself in your gentle spirit It branches out into all my life and is watered by sweet words from your mouth. _________ _____ _________ _________
