4 Location and General Demographics O In New London, CT O Student population: 500 O Diverse students from all over the state Student dancers representing Central America

5 Why School is innovative O Through the use of a controlled lottery, the school has been successful in meeting its goals for racial diversity and has achieved socioeconomic diversity as well. One third of the students are on free and reduced lunch. O All classrooms have smart boards and a host of other modern technology available Students are immersed in an environment where they learn to appreciate cultural differences from all over the globe as well as their own and celebrate the diversity of the world's communities.

6 21 st Century Skills Students participate in a variety of hands on learning experiences outside of the classroom Students take trips out of the classroom to gain real world experiences within the community O For example students can participate in trip to Natures classroom in Iverton CT, students stay overnight for 5 days in cabins to explore nature O Field trip on a fairy ride to Long Island Sound in NY (it’s a short boat ride)

7 Culturally Relevant Pedagogy O The curriculum includes a variety of ways to incorporate family and community O There is a strong teacher-family partnership that exist O Parents are encouraged to share insight a feedback about O The curriculum includes current issues students face; a unit on bullying was done for the entire school and communication was sent home to share O For example every year students are able to do a presentation to the class on there culture or heritage my son who attends this school is part Haitian. He was able to share that side of his culture with the class by teaching them a few words in Creole which is his fathers native language.

8 Promotes Creativity The school offers a variety of programs: World Language, music, arts, performing arts, natures classroom, compass, before and after school programs, ect. Art Class The morning news crew preparing to deliver the news

10 Why Unique O ISAAC is an experiential learning community where students are challenged to discover their talents and strengths, while valuing the diversity in others in their school, community and the world. 11 Culturally Relevant Pedagogy Charter schools operate from 3 basic principles O Accountability: Charter schools must operate lawfully and responsibly, with the highest regard for equity and excellence based on the states mastery scores. 16 Promotes Creativity O Students are able to explore the world around them which include a great world language program O The school offers a variety of after school clubs such as: sailing, foreign exchange program with students from Italy, robotic, fitness, eco art club to name a few O There are strong partnerships within the community such as: New England Science and Sailing (NESS), and National Society of Black Engineers.
