Skills of a sports leader It’s important for sports leaders to have a variety of skills in order to support participants, keep them safe and provide them with many opportunities to take part in physical activity and sport. TASK 1: Using the information you have gathered over the holidays, create a mind map and select one of the following skills. Define the skill and say how it would be used by a leader in sport.

5. Sharing Information You must now share the information you have on your own skill and collect information from other pairs on their skill. You have 10 minutes to collect information on ALL of the skills a successful sports leader would need. GO!!!!!!

6. Skills of a sports leader Using the information you have gained from the mind map, you now need to describe all the skills of a leader and say why they might be needed in sport. For example: “Knowledge would be used in sport to help prevent injury by teaching the correct techniques. It could also be used to help change a game if your team is losing, you could change tactics or style of play to try and win. It is also used when teaching people a sport as if you do not teach that person the correct thing they will think that is the correct thing to do”.

9. Example answer for ‘qualities of a sports leader’ You must say why its important for a sports leader to have all of the qualities discussed on the previous slide. For Example: “Looking clean and tidy as well as prepared for a sporting activity is an important part of a leaders appearance. In order to gain respect and show professionalism, it is vital that the correct clothing is worn. Also, in order to physically demonstrate tactics or techniques, the correct clothing and suitable accessories must be worn / used in order to carry this task out safely”.
