2 Who is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? He was a Baptist minister and also an influential speaker. His speeches spoke out against African American injustices and expressed their demands for social justice. He won the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize for conducting peaceful protests and demonstrations.

3 Quotes from "I Have a Dream” “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal." I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

4 Books Dr. King wrote? Stride Toward Freedom (1958), Strength to Love (1963), Why We Can't Wait (1964), Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community? (1967), The Trumpet of Conscience (1968).

5 His Early life: Martin Luther King was born on Jan. 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. His name at birth was Michael King, Jr., after his father, Michael King. But his father changed their names to Martin Luther King, Sr. and Jr. after learning about the influential Protestant leader from Germany. He skipped both the 9th and 12th grades and at the age of 15, he entered Morehouse College in Atlanta

6 The early civil rights movement King's civil rights activities began with a protest of Montgomery's segregated bus system in 1955. In 1960, black college students across the South began sitting at lunch counters and entering other facilities that refused to serve blacks.

7 Dr. King’s contribution: He made it possible for many African Americans to have equal rights. He helped end segregation.
