The Nervous System Bridget Baggerly and Mac Griffith

Electrical Communication System

General functions

Three Main Ideas -Sensory input -Integration -Motor Output

Sensory Input Receptors within the body surface send sensory neurons to the interneurons.

Integration The CNS receives, processes, and interprets the interneurons and decides what to do with it; Then sends out interneurons to motor neurons.

Motor Output The interneurons in the CNS send out motor neurons to effector organs in response to sensory organs.

Primary Functions CommunicateS with the body IntegrateS the body Controls The body Recognizes sensory stimuli

Coordination with Other Organ Systems

Respiratory Nervous system provide O2 to the brain to think and control all other body systems. The NS removes CO2 and H2O That brain cells produce as waste products.

-Hormones provide feedback to the brain. (Neural processing) -Reproductive hormonesMade the the development of the NS ENDOCRINE SYSTEM

Improving Behaviors

Hydration Dehydration causes confusion and memory loss H2O is the primary conductor in the body Communication through the body via the NS

EXERCISING Good for the brain Improves cognitive functions (Brian's) Make you more alert (Sensory input and motor output) Reduces stress

AFFECTING DISEASES

PARKINSONS - affects the nerve cells in the brain cells - Muscle rigidity, tremors, change in speech

Multiple Sclerosis -affects the CNS ( Brian and spine) -weakness, tingling, numbness, blurred vision, muscle stiffness, thinking and urinary problems -Medicine only delays progression on disease

QUIZ 1. The _____, ______, and ______ are the three major organs in the Nervous System. 2. The _______ _______ is an electrical communication system.

Match 1. Sensory input 2. Integration 3. Motor output A.The CNS receives, interprets, and processes sensory input. B.CNS sends out impulses to effector organs C. Receptors within the body surface send sensory neurons to the interneurons
