Approach control Prepare the glider for landing – ‘WUSA’ before High Key AIRMANSHIP mental preparation ‘sterile cockpit’ lookout Landing flap – NOT BEFORE final turn Use of reference line: - WAIT till overshooting, then 1/2 - 2/3 airbrake - AVOID ‘Shallowing approach’ syndrome Landing: fully held off in the right place; NOT undershooting; DEEP means DEEP

Field landings Hus Bos Pilots Meeting 4 Jul 2009 AIM: To select a field and land safely in it What can go wrong? late decision to select late decision to land lose sight of field mis-judge approach (over trees / other obstacles?) noticing too late: slope, wires, crop type… poor choice of field How to avoid problems: GOOD AIRMANSHIP: currency / practice / refresher training keep options open – stay over an area with possible fields select field early / DECIDE to land before it’s too late
