1. Exploring the Bible!’ Sunday evenings a major week by week exploration of the books of the Bible. Tonight EZRA Every Sunday evening at ‘Bible Explorer’ we will explore the question ‘what does this book mean for us today?’

2. EZRA Chapter 1-7 Ezra or someone else reporting on the return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple. Chapters 8-10 Ezra writes in the first person, teaching and applying God’s Word to the people of God in a ceremony of re dedication of the rebuilt temple.

EZRA  About a Building Project  About getting back to the Basics of Faith and service  About God’s intervention in History and his involvement with Gentile Kings  About a fresh start for God’s people, a new chapter  About the role of God’s prophets to stir up and enthuse about the right focus for God’s people.  About radical costly obedience to something that was known to be right but had been neglected or forgotten.

6. EZRA The Building Project Chapter 3 Going got tough: They started enthusiastic but then rumours started and opposition began from neighbouring provinces. Chapter 4 More trouble this time it’s official. The upshot of the letter caused discouragement, confusion on who should be building or whether they should be building. The work came to a standstill.

7. EZRA Chapter 5 QUESTIONS How does a church or a Christian, or a Christian Project get back off the ground after a loss of vision or opposition which brought it to a standstill? (Pause for a moment, share an idea with neighbour)

8. The role of the Prophets: Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi

9. Haggai Haggai spoke into a spiritual vacuum or paralysis. The Jews were more concerned about their OWN AFFAIRS than for the GLORY OF GOD- they were busy building their OWN HOUSES. DISTRACTED from what God wanted them to do. Haggai 1: 5-6 planted much but harvested little v7 God said “GIVE CAREFUL THOUGHT to your ways”

Haggai 1:12-14 12 Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him. And the people feared the LORD. 13 Then Haggai, the LORD's messenger, gave this message of the LORD to the people: I am with you, declares the LORD. 14 So the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began work on the house of the LORD Almighty, their God. (NIVUK)

12. Zechariah Zechariah, called for a return to the Lord. 1:15-16 very jealous for Jerusalem and Zion, but I am very angry with the nations that feel secure. I will rebuild and a measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem. Zechariah “ 4:6 Not by might, nor by power but by my Spirit says the Lord Almighty.” Zechariah 6:8-9 “ Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another...”

13. EZRA Chapters 9 and 10 Purity and Obedience to acknowledge wrong doing and return to the Basics of the Law of Moses.
