100 Points Name the three primary components of the circulatory system. Blood, heart, blood vessels

200 Points What are the three types of blood vessels? Capillaries, arteries, and veins What is the order of them as blood travels from the heart to the body and back? From heart, travels through thick walled arteries to thin walled capillaries. Blood returns to the heart through veins.

300 Points Explain the functions of the lymphatic system. -Collects and returns fluid to circulatory system. -Help defend against infection.

400 Points Name and describe the four chambers of the heart. Right Atrium – Oxygen poor blood from the body. Right Ventricle – Oxygen poor blood from right atrium. From here it is pumped to lungs. Left Atrium – Oxygen rich blood from lungs. Left Ventricle – Oxygen rich blood from left atrium. From here it is pumped to rest of body.

500 Points Describe at least three components of blood. Plasma (water, salts, wastes, etc.), red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets.

100 Points What are the primary organs of the urinary/excretory system? Kidneys!

200 Points The purpose of the excretory system is? Removal of wastes, regulate water and salts in body

300 Points Describe the path of urine from the kidney to out of the body. Urine produced from the kidneys travels through the ureters to the urinary bladder. It is temporarily stored in the urinary bladder until it is excreted through the urethra.

400 Points What are the respiratory surfaces within lungs called where oxygen and carbon dioxide freely exchange? Alveoli – they are the air sacs in the lungs.

500 Points What are the three lines of defense in the body? External Barriers Nonspecific Internal Responses Specific Internal Responses

100 Points Which blood cell type is the most numerous? Red blood cells

200 Points Which type of tissue covers your body and lines your internal organs? Epithelial tissue

300 Points What is the main component of blood? plasma

400 Points What are the five steps of the scientific method? Observations, Question, Hypothesis, Prediction, Test

500 Points What is the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure? Systolic blood pressure is the blood pressure in your arteries when the ventricles contract (top number in blood pressure reading). Diastolic blood pressure is the blood pressure in your arteries when the ventricles relax (bottom number in blood pressure reading).

100 Points What is the difference between an ionic and covalent bond? Ionic occurs when electrons move to another atom and covalent is when two atoms share electrons.

200 Points If an atom loses an electron, what is its charge? positive

300 Points What are the four chambers of the heart and describe their function. RALA RVLV

400 Points What is the three carbon backbone of fat called? Glycerol

500 Points What is a polysaccharide? Give an example. A polysaccharide is a carbohydrate that consists of a number of sugar molecules (three or more) bonded together. Examples: Starch, Cellulose

100 Points What are two lifestyle choices that can lead to cardiovascular disease? Poor diet, smoking, not exercising, etc.

200 Points What does negative feedback mean? Change in conditions triggers response that counteracts that change. Ex: Think of a thermostat in your home.

300 Points What would be the total magnification power of our microscopes if you are using the high power (40x) objective lens? 40 x 10 (eyepiece / ocular lens) = 400 magnification

400 Points What is the part of the kidney called in which filtration and reabsorption occur? Nephron

500 Points What is the passive transport of water across a semipermeable membrane called? What lab did we perform to show this? Passive transport (diffusion) of water = Osmosis We performed the egg experiment to see how much they weighed after being in different solutions.
