5 AWARENESS & EDUCATIONAL (MULTI-LINGUAL) ACTIVITIES Cont’d  Distribution of tsunami materials in Spanish and French to Secondary Schools for integration into their language lessons  Distribution of French materials to Governor General and French Ambassador  In collaboration with AusAID and CDEMA, PSAs addressing the French and creole needs of the community developed and distributed to 19 radio stations, 11 television stations and some supermarkets with e-Advertising

7  Players – Prime Minister’s Office, Met, Police, Government Information Service, Ministry of Physical Development-Sustainable and Environment Department, Fire Service, NEMO Secretariat CARIBEWAVE 11 Tsunami Simulation Exercise

8  Results: 1.Participants effectively demonstrated the capability to manage a tsunami event 2.Message transmission objective partially met as only 3 agencies received message: NEMO, Met and Fire. Evaluation needed re: relaying to Police 3.Reviewed and critiqued the Draft Tsunami Contingency Plan 4.Warning dissemination & communication to be enhanced – emergency vehicle sirens and horns, standardisation of messages necessary 5.Public awareness to be enhanced for more effective response 6.Exercise covered by electronic media only 7.Beneficial to include other decision-makers in future exercises e.g. Ministry of Health CARIBEWAVE 11 Tsunami Simulation Exercise

9  The Tsunami Warning Focal Point held discussion on the Tsunami Decision Matrix with the Meteorological Forecasters who are the primary receivers of the tsunami advisories. Orientation

10  Proposed Five Year Strategy (2011 - 2016) for Building Resilience to Tsunamis is being adopted (HFA & CDEMA’s CDM Strategy) 1.Promoting integration of DRR in Coastal Zone Management 2.Completion of the National Tsunami Plan 3.Support PAE campaigns and development of culture and language specific public information material 4.Website launch 5.Engagement on adoption of DM related educational materials in education system & teacher training 6.Knowledge exchange and training on tsunami hazard map and its application strategy NEXT STEPS
