6 Bright Shiny Projects Does the project meet the purpose of Rotary and the youth service activity? 1. To recognize and develop constructive leadership and personal integrity. 2. To encourage and practice thoughtfulness of and helpfulness to others. 3. To create an awareness of the importance of home and family. 4. To build respect for the rights of others, based on recognition of the worth of each individual. 5. To emphasize acceptance of individual responsibility as the basis of personal success, community improvement, and group achievement. 6. To develop life skills including self development, time management, and personal finances. 7. To recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupations as opportunities to serve society. 8. To provide opportunities for gaining increased knowledge and understanding of community, national, and world affairs. 9. To open avenues of personal and group action leading to the advancement of international understanding and goodwill toward all peoples.

To motivate young people for eventual membership in Rotary.

What should we consider about motivation that will affect the success of a project? Tension or concern – This is a facilitating factor providing it exists to a moderate degree. Too much tension may divert club members’ tension into dealing with the tension rather than the task.

Tension or concern Feeling tone – A moderate amount of pleasant (or unpleasant) tone will increase motivation, while excessive amounts produce debilitating tension. Absence of feeling tone, or neutral feeling tones tend to decrease motivation.

Tension or concern Feeling tone Interest Knowledge of results Relation of activity to reward – When the activity itself is rewarding, it produces a situation where motivation is intrinsic, the activity will be likely to achieve the goal, and motivation compounds. Extrinsic motivation is dependent on and changes with the specific situation.
