1 Why is it important to know your times tables and related division facts?

2 There is now an even greater emphasis for children to be proficient in basic skills (number bonds, place value (hundreds, tens, units) and times tables at ever earlier ages. There is an expectation that children will be able to recall these facts quickly and apply them in problem solving and investigations. The National Curriculum states the following: Year 2: ‘become fluent in the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables and connect them to each other.’ Year 3: ‘recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3,4 and 8 multiplication tables.’ Year 4: ‘recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12x12.’ Year 5: ‘they apply all multiplication tables and related division facts frequently, commit them to memory and use them confidently to make larger calculations.’ Year 6: ‘continue to use all the multiplication tables to calculate mathematical statements in order to maintain their fluency.’

3 On load, will play Livin’ On A Prayer but mp3 must be stored locally.
