2 Overall aims of the workshop Raising the aspirations of learners and staff through participating in European funded projects An overview of international activity in 2011/12 Priorities for the Further Education sector in Wales in relation to developing commercial activities overseas

3 UK National Agency Leonardo da Vinci funding It supports UK vocational education and training (VET) organisations, staff and learners to work together with European partners to improve training, skills and employability.

4 Funding available for apprentices 2012/14 (amount per participant and accompanying member of staff) Travel:400€ maximum (actual costs) Language preparation: 200€ (only for participants) Daily subsistence : Depends on the European country but the amount will cover accommodation, insurance and daily living expenses Leonardo da Vinci funding for mobility

7 International activities 2011/12 2 Spanish students undertake a 3 month work placements with renewable energy companies in Neath and Swansea (link through Gower College Swansea), 3 Spanish students undertake a 3 month work placement at GE Healthcare, Tongwynlais (link through Coleg Morgannwg), 1 Spanish student works for a month at ColegauCymru (June, July and December 2011) Visit to France hosted by the Regional Council of Brittany (May 2011) Attendance at the International Education Strategy Group meeting which includes representatives from Welsh Government, HE and FE (May 2011) Official launch of the Wales China FE consortium by the First Minister for Wales during his visit to China in October 2011 (October 2011)

12 International activities 2011/12 Learners and staff from Deeside College and Pembrokeshire College visit the ‘Olympiades des Métiers’ in Brittany (February 2012) VETPRO visit from the Basque Country in Spain to look at strategies for youth entrepreneurship in Wales (March 2012) Visit to FE colleges in Wales by a delegation of Libyan officials from the Ministry of Labour and Employment (March 2012) Visit to Wales by Welsh Government overseas staff – presentation to the staff of the HE and the FE sectors in Wales (April 2012) Visit to India by the First Minister for Wales with direct references made in a press release on his return to the potential partnership opportunities for FE colleges in Wales to develop the skills of 500 million young people!! Deadline for UKIERI bids with a specific strand for skills development (April 2012) Attendance at UK India Skills Partnership in London organised by the High Commission for India in London (May 2012)
