NM Legislative Update SB122 – General Obligation Bond Projects SB 122 includes $185.2 million in projects including - $15.2 for senior centers - $10.0 million for libraries including $3.25 million for academic libraries; - $142.0 million for higher education institutions - $18.0 million for public safety related projects NMSU System received $27.5 million The GOB projects will be on the November ballot and will have to be approved by the voters Libraries will be included in Question 2 and higher education projects will be included in Question 3

The Path Forward – Dan Howard Some Sunshine Enrollment of first year students increased by 6.7% in the fall of 2015 Applications are up 7.2% for fall of 2016 300 students from technological universities in Mexico will begin English language training at NMSU this summer; many will enter our graduate programs We have asked HED for permission to charge residents of Mexico reduced out-of-state tuition (1.5 times in-state tuition)

The Path Forward Retention Student Success Navigators: provide academic and social support for first year students, intervene when students show signs of distress QuickConnect referrals went from 252 in Spring of 2015 to 998 in fall of 2015, and many faculty members actively intervened with students who were not doing well in class

The Path Forward Retention Faculty Senate passed legislation requiring reporting of early performance grades in 100 and 200 level courses allowing faculty members, advisors and navigators to identify and help struggling students early enough in the semester to make a difference in their academic success
