3 Skilled Trades Survey Why? –According to a recent article in the HBR (Dec. 2012): “…labor market experts estimate that as many as 25 million or 47% of all new job openings from 2010 to 2020 will fall into the middle skills range…jobs that require postsecondary technical education and training and in some cases, college math courses or degrees. –Focus on the 28 occupations identified in the CET workforce development study…Which ones are most important to energy employers in the Charlotte region over the next 5 years? –Identify synergies among EELG members for possible group action 3

4 Skilled Trades Survey Methodology: –30 energy related employers received the survey – 22 responded (73%) The 22 responding companies employ over 15,500 workers in the Charlotte region –Surveys and responses grouped by business model: Engineering Services & Construction Manufacturing Power Generation, Transmission & Distribution All (Shared Occupations) 4

5 Skilled Trades Survey Methodology (cont’d): –Employers were asked to rank occupations based on their projected importance over the next 5 years (2014 thru 2019) (example occupation) Welders, Cutters & Welder Fitters –Not important –Of little importance –Moderately important –Important –Very important –Focus on Charlotte Region –Occupations for each business model were selected based on the Workforce Development Study completed late 2013 5
