DARETTA L. WILSON EDU620: MEETING INDIVIDUAL STUDENT NEEDS WITH TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTOR: ADRIANE WHEAT MARCH 29, 2016 Bonjour Hello 안녕하세요 こんにちは Hallo 你好 Hola Χαίρετε xin chào

Hello everyone! My name is Daretta L. Wilson and I am in my fifth course toward earning my Master’s Degree here at Ashford University. I just recently messed up my shoulder in week two of my last course and will be having surgery soon, however I am still going to try and complete my courses without interruption. The orthopedic surgeon says I have rotator cuff tendonitis, severe bursitis, and adhesive capsulitis. In short, my shoulder bone will need to be shaved down in order for me to have full movement and feeling in my right arm and hand again.

Specialization: Family and Community Services Goal for using my degree: To become a middle school counselor. The experience that I have thus far is volunteering, substitute teaching, and working as an aide in K-12 grade both regular classrooms and special education classrooms. I believe that my life experiences will help me reach out to the less fortunate, disabled, or challenged and help them to see the future in a brighter way.

Course Learning Outcome The Master of Arts in Education degree has specializations that will help me to reach the pinnacle of my education career. Of the following specializations I chose Family & Community Services. The reason I chose this specialization is because I had already received my Bachelor of Arts in Education degree specializing in Child Development and wanted a specialization that would keep me involved in education but also let me venture out to help children more. When I look at the MAED Program Learning Outcomes and think about which one might intrigue me the most, I find it hard to narrow it down to just one. I believe that the two I have listed here would be the two outcomes that most intrigue me.  Engage in continuous professional growth through leadership in educational environments and the demonstration of legal and ethical behavior in professional practices.  Effectively communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders through written communication, verbal communication, and a variety of current and emerging digital age tools to ensure learner growth and to advance the profession. I believe that the two outcomes listed above will contribute to my career because my long term goal is to be a school counselor. After graduating college, I will still engage in continuous professional growth through leadership in educational environments and I will definitely be in tune with legal and ethical behavior in my professional practice and environment. It is very important that I be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with principals, teachers, parents, and other school officials through written or verbal communication as well as a variety of current and emerging digital age tools to ensure learner growth and to advance the profession.

Consideration of the final project My understanding of the final project is that we will write a proposal to present to the community, school district, school board, and public regarding how important technology is in the school districts and in the community. I will select the role of an educator / counselor when preparing my proposal and presentation. The fact that technology is a must in this day and age and that it is needed for school, work, and home will be what motivates and excites me to get this bond to pass. What concerns me is that people will not want to put the money out there to educate our students and adults by empowering them with the technology that is needed to advance and succeed. I think that by participating in this bond proposal that I will learn more about how the process of asking and requesting something works, I think that this project will help me learn more of why technology is advancing so fast and why it is being used more and more throughout our schools, communities, and work places, and most of all I think the project will enlighten me to see what else I need to learn in order to follow my career path to be a counselor.

MOYERS & COMPANY: WHO’S WIDENING AMERICA’S DIGITAL DIVIDE? What an amazing video and a very intelligent woman. I had never heard the information regarding the internet and how Time Warner Cable and Comcast have become the wired carriers and Verizon and AT&T have become the wireless carriers. I do agree that technology feels more like a utility than the internet and agree that for the lower income class of people it is very difficult to afford what is needed this day and age just to get by. As Susan stated, the internet is needed for homework, applying for jobs, and even government assistance.
