3 Post WWI “The world must be made safe for democracy.” - Woodrow Wilson. People were disillusioned and nervous originally. Racism, intolerance, violence, Ku Klux Klan, immigrants, political intolerance. 1920s became a time of prosperity and a new “Golden Age”

5 Jazz 1920s called the “Jazz Age” Popularized in the 1920s. Older generations thought it immoral and threatening to cultural values. Dances: “The Charleston”, “Lindy Hop”, “Foxtrot”

6 Prohibition Came after the Temperance Movement - Worried about the effects that alcohol has on home life. 18th Amendment (Ratified in 1919) - In effect for 13 years. Illegal to make, sell, distribute, or consume alcohol.
