3 KS1 and KS2 Changes 2014/15 a new national curriculum framework was introduced for Years 1, 3, 4 and 5. Years 2 and 6 continued to study the previous curriculum for one further year. 2015/16 children in all years at Key Stage 1 and 2 now study the new national curriculum. KS1 (Year 2) and KS2 SATs (Year 6) will now reflect the new curriculum.

4 Assessment and reporting KS1 At the end of Year 2 children will be reported as achieving Growing development of the expected standard Working towards the expected standard Working at the expected standard Working at greater depth within the expected standard

5 Assessment and reporting KS2 In Writing children will achieve: Working towards the expected standard Working at the expected standard Working at greater depth within the expected standard In other subjects working at the expected standard or not.

6 Higher attaining pupils From this year, there won’t be any separate tests for the most able children. Instead, each test will have scope for higher attaining pupils to show their strengths. Every child will complete all the tests.

8 KS2 tests Key Stage 2 SATs take place week commencing 9th May 2016. Some schools will take part in Science testing--three tests in Biology, Physics and Chemistry. All tests are externally marked. Writing will be Teacher Assessed. 9 Securing Teacher Assessment judgements Teacher assessment will be used to finalise a judgement for WRITING in KS2 and in ALL subjects in KS1. In KS1 and KS2 moderation takes place between class teachers using the interim assessment framework. We look at children’s work from the whole year. Cross phase with teachers in KS2/KS1 Senior Leadership team Moderate our judgements. Cross school moderation: other schools moderate our judgements. Local authority verify our judgements.

10 Reading test KS1 Paper 1 – texts - 400 and 700 words with questions about the text. Paper 2 – A reading booklet 800 to 1100 words. Children will write their answers in a separate booklet. Each paper is worth 50% of the marks and should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The texts will cover a range of poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Questions are designed to assess the comprehension and understanding of a child’s reading. Some questions are multiple choice, selected response, short answers and extended response or explanation.

11 Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation KS1 Test consists of 2 separate papers Paper 1: spelling (20 marks). Paper 2: Grammar and Punctuation (20 marks).

12 Mathematics KS1 Children will sit two tests: Paper 1 and Paper 2: Paper 1 arithmetic, lasting 25 minutes and worth 25 marks. It covers calculation methods for all operations. Paper 2 covers problem solving, reasoning and mathematical fluency, lasts for 35 minutes and is worth 35 marks. Pupils will require calculation skills. Questions will be varied including multiple choice, matching, true/false, completing a chart or table or drawing a shape.

14 Reading KS2 The Reading Test single test paper with three unrelated reading texts. Children are given 60 minutes in total, which includes reading the texts and answering the questions. A total of 50 marks are available. Questions are designed to assess the comprehension and understanding of a child’s reading. Some questions are multiple choice or selected response, others require short answers and some require an extended response or explanation.

15 Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar KS2 A Spelling test contains 20 words, lasting approximately 15 minutes. A separate test is given - Punctuation, Vocabulary and Grammar PVG lasts 45 minutes and requires short answer questions, including some multiple choice. Marks for these two tests are added together giving a total for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.

17 Mathematics KS2 Children will sit three tests: Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3. Paper 1 is for ‘Arithmetic’ lasting for 30 minutes, covering calculation methods for all operations, including use of fractions, percentages and decimals. Papers 2 and 3 cover ‘Problem Solving and Reasoning’, each lasting for 40 minutes. Pupils will still require calculation skills but will need to answer questions in context and decide what is required to find a solution.
