Why Does Paul Bring This Up? Was This a Question They Asked Him? ◦“Now Concerning” (7:1, 8:1, 12:1) Was This a Problem He Learned About? “I Praise You…I Will Not Praise” (11:2, 17,22) Paul and The Corinthians Knew What the Problem Was…We Don’t.

Different Views – Pro Covering 1. A woman must wear a head covering while she is praying. This passage still applies to women today. 2. I don’t know if women should wear a head covering or not today. Therefore, to be safe, all women should wear one.

Different Views – No Covering 3. A woman’s hair is her covering. She does not need an additional covering. ◦Men Were Not to Let Their Hair Hang Down. Covered = Let Down (Kata. Gk) 4. This was a custom in those days and is not applicable today since we do not have the same problem or custom today.

Different Views – No Covering 5. The head covering was necessary while a woman was praying and prophesying because it was at these times her submission became suspect. This does not apply today because we do not have spiritual gifts. In other words, we don’t have women who pray and prophesy today.

What Was the Problem? Too Often Nobody Deals With This Question. It Was a Problem Of Authority and Showing Submission. When? Praying and Prophesying ◦Use of Spiritual Gifts Acts 21:9 – Women Prophesied.

Praying Was Part of Using Gifts 1 Cor. 14:14-15 “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. What is the outcome then? I shall pray with the spirit and I shall pray with the mind also.”

What Was Happening in Corinth? When Women Used Their Spiritual Gifts, They Were Taking Their Coverings Off. Perhaps, Because They Were Doing the “Things of Men.” 1 Cor. 14:34-35 = There Was Other Problems With the Women at Corinth.

What Did Head Coverings Mean In Those Days? 1 Cor. 11:10 “Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head.” She Showed She Was Submissive to Her Head (Man).
