Project Objectives The overall objective: Poverty reduction in the context of sustainable development, including the pursuit of the health related MDGs Specific Objective: To empower NSA to address regional and social disparities in safe motherhood through health related poverty reduction initiatives

7. Focal Sector 1.Health sector 2.Specific target: Safe motherhood integrated with: 1.nutrition 2.family planning. 3.Nutrition or family planning may be excluded with adequate prove of same action being implemented 4.Microfinance/revolving funds not allowed

8. Geographic Criteria 1.Arid and Semi Arid Lands (ASAL) or 2.Urban slums in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret

9. Expected Results 1.Child and maternal mortality ratios reduced 2.Nutrition status of mothers, newborn and children under five years improved 3.Family planning uptake improved 4.Capacities of health-care delivery systems improved

Activities 1.Facilitate access of women to pre-natal and obstetric care 2.Improve the conditions of neonatal and postpartum care 3.Create awareness on need for skilled attendance at delivery 4.Improve early childhood (under 5 years) health 5.Improve nutrition for children and mothers such as exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, vitamin A, etc. 6.Refurbishing and equipping maternity wards including supply of clean water 7.Facilitate access to treated bed nets for children and mothers
