John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know <1097> thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.  1097 ginosko, v AV - know 196, perceive 9, understand 8, misc 10; 223 * (1) to learn to know, come to know, get a knowledge of understand.  Do Moslems know God & Jesus? o Christians know God and Jesus?

1CO 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God  Who is Christ’s head?  Plus this statement takes place after Jesus has ascended to the Father. Is Sincerity enough? Rom. 10:1-3

"EK" IS NOT USED OF CHRIST BY PAUL! 1CO 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.  2CO 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;  Appendix A-4

1CO 15:28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.  Why is the timing important?

What one point do we agree with Pastor Shaw?

Why does Pastor Shaw’s analogy not hold water? 1TI 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 1TI 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; – 3316 "mesites" a go between. By implication a reconciler. By definition the mediator here can’t be God !

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Jesus in the Kingdom Age will manifest these titles as God’s angel bore God’s name and how Joseph was a father to Pharaoh. – Exo. 23:21 Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. – Genesis 45:8 So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt. Ex.23:21 Gen 45:8

► John 10:30-33 I and my Father are one. [31] Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. [32] Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? [33] The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. [34] Jesus answered … [35] If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came … ► “One” in the future will also apply to Jesus’ brethren.  John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: ► (Context) Jesus didn’t make himself God, v.36  John 10:36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? ► Jesus quoted Psa.82:6 where the elders of Israel were called gods.  Psalm 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

The Nicene Creed – 325 A.D. We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father by whom all things were made ; who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the H oly S pirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man, and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried, and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father. And he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead, whose kingdom shall have no end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceedeth from the Father and the Son who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And we believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. And we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The Nicene Creed teaches: Equality of Jesus and God. Jesus begotten therefore not made. Jesus “incarnate by the Holy Spirit”. The holy spirit being worshipped.

Athanasian Creed – 365 A.D. Now the catholic faith is that we worship One God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, neither confounding the Persons nor dividing the substance. For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, another of the Holy Spirit. But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, is One, the Glory equal, the Majesty coeternal. Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit; the Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, and the Holy Spirit uncreated; the father infinite, the Son infinite, and the Holy Spirit infinite; the Father eternal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Spirit eternal. And yet not three eternals but one eternal, as also not three infinites, nor three uncreated, but one uncreated, and one infinite. So, likewise, the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, and the Holy Spirit almighty; and yet not three almighties but one almighty. So the Father is God, the Son God, and the Holy Spirit God; and yet not three Gods but one God. So the Father is Lord, the Son Lord, and the Holy Spirit Lord; and yet not three Lords but one Lord. For like as we are compelled by Christian truth to acknowledge every Person by Himself to be both God and Lord; so are we forbidden by the catholic religion to say, there be three Gods or three Lords. The Father is made of none, neither created nor begotten. The Son is of the Father alone, not made nor created but begotten. The Holy Spirit is of the Father and the Son, not made nor created nor begotten but proceeding. So there is one Father not three Fathers, one Son not three Sons, and Holy Spirit not three Holy Spirits. And in this Trinity there is nothing before or after, nothing greater or less, but the whole three Persons are coeternal together and coequal. The Athanasian Creed in summary: "We worship one God in the Trinity, and the Trinity in unity; we distinguish among the persons, but we do not divide the substance. The entire three persons are co-eternal and co-equal with one another, so that... we worship complete unity in Trinity and Trinity in unity."

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 1. If “life eternal”, why didn’t Jesus, Paul or Peter preach the Trinity? 2. 1Tim.4:1 warns there would be a departure from the faith. 3. 20 THE DOCTRINE OF INCARNATION The term incarnation is of Latin origin, and it means “becoming in flesh.” The term incarnation is of Latin origin, and it means “becoming in flesh.” The word incarnation is not contained within Scripture. The word incarnation is not contained within Scripture. The Christian doctrine of the Incarnation teaches that the Eternal Word, the second person of the Trinity, without diminishing His deity took upon Himself a fully human nature. The Christian doctrine of the Incarnation teaches that the Eternal Word, the second person of the Trinity, without diminishing His deity took upon Himself a fully human nature. Phil 2:6-8 Who being in the form of God … and was made in the likeness of men.

The Devil’s advocate! Phil. 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:  6 Who, being in the form of God, (Gen.1:27 “So God created man in his own image …”) thought it not robbery ( NIV “grasped”) to be equal with God: (Jesus unlike Eve didn’t grasp at equality.)  7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: (Jesus though tempted, emptied himself and took at his baptism the form of a servant that he might do God’s will and save his brethren.)  8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (Even though he was God’s only begotten son he was in fashion a man but unlike men, he was obedient.) Key to interpreting scripture is context and comparing scripture with scripture. The context is v.5 where we are exhorted to have a mind like Jesus but this exhortation only works if Jesus was like us and not God incarnate. Comparing scripture: This echoes Eden showing Jesus didn’t grasp for equality. If Jesus was God, why think it “not robbery to be equal with God”? It doesn’t make sense. John MacArthur

Jesus Christ pre-existed in God’s mind – slain! REV 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Why would God conceive of such a test to Abraham? God hates human sacrifice, Jer 19:5

How Did Jeremiah pre-exist? JER 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. ► Jeremiah existed in God’s mind as part of His marvellous plan and so did Jesus.

JOH 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. COMMENTARY: God is the Architect and the “LOGOS” is God's spoken plan.  This plan was "with God“ as wisdom was in Prov. 8:22 “The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.”  “And the Word was God” as in Prov. 23:7 “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:...”  The heavens were made by Yahweh’s word. Psa.33:6 By the word (LXX = logos ) of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. So was wisdom, Pro.8:22;23:7. See Psa. 33:6 parallel. “logos” = God’s plan Pro. 23:7

► John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  3056 logos {log'-os}; n m AV - word 218, saying 50, account 8, speech 8, Word (Christ) 7, thing 5, misc. 34; 330. 330.  Jesus was foreordained by God’s spoken word in the beginning. ► 1PE 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world.  John 1:14 And the Word (“logos” = God’s plan became real! ) was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. ► With the birth of Jesus the centre piece of God’ plan could now be seen for he manifested his Father completely. Jesus was foreordained and centre to God’s plan.

Answering John MacArthur ► Col. 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: [16] For by (“en” = in) him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by (“dia”= through) him, and for (“eis”= for) him: [17] And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. [18] And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the pre-eminence. [19] For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell;  V.16 says too much even for Trinitarians for Jesus didn’t create God the Father.  Three prepositions in v.16 are used of Jesus. They are “en”, “dia” and “eis”. The preposition “ek” isn’t used since all things are of God.  Jesus is the firstborn of the new creation and because of God’ marvellous plan (the “logos” with Jesus the centre piece) all things were created.

Answering John MacArthur Jn 8:57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? [58] Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.  Jesus’ position was before Abraham in God’s plan (“logos”) for without Jesus, God’s plan wouldn’t have happened.  Jesus bore the titles of God as do his angels so bearing the title “I Am”, doesn’t make Jesus or the angels God. ► Exodus 23:20-21 Behold, I send an Angel before thee, … [21] Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. i.e. ► Exodus 3:4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.  Acts 7:35 This Moses …the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.

► Adon – Lord, Sovereign (Psa.135:5) ► Adonai – Lords, plural of “Adon” ► Ail – strength or power (Psa.90:2) ► El – same as “Ail” ► Eloah – Mighty one (Psa.18:31) ► Elohim – plural of “Eloah” (18:21) ► Kurios – The Greek word for “Adon” (James 5:4) ► Shaddai – nourish (Psa.91:1) ► Theos – The Greek word for God ► Tzoor – Rock, a metaphor for strength. (Psa.18:2) ► Yahweh – God’s memorial name (Ex.3:15)

Answering John MacArthur  Hebrews 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he (God) hath appointed heir of all things, by (“dia”) whom also he (God) made the worlds; [3] Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image (5481 charakter {khar-ak-tare‘) of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; –“Though”, “on account of” (“dia”) Jesus’ accomplishment, God in His foreknowledge made the worlds. –MacArthur skips verse 2 which says God made the worlds. Further Heb.3:4 says “…he that built all things is God”. –The Greek word for image is “charakter” and not “eikon” showing Jesus manifested God’s character. i.e. in John 14:9 Jesus said “he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? –“eikon” is used to describe the physical image.  Matthew 22:20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image (“eikon”) and superscription? [21] They say unto him, Caesar’s …”

The incarnation proof text Phil. 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:  6 Who, being in the form of God, (Gen.1:27 “So God created man in his own image …”) thought it not robbery to be equal with God: (Jesus unlike Eve didn’t grasp at equality)  7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: (Jesus though tempted, emptied himself and took at his baptism the form of a servant that he might do God’s will and save his brethren.)  8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (Even though he was God’s only begotten son he was in fashion a man but unlike men, he was obedient.) This is the only direct text used to support the church doctrine of “incarnation”. The church indirectly supports it with the doctrine of the pre-existence of Jesus.
