Spiritual Family & Church Life

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit--just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call--one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift. (Ephesians 4:1-7 ESV)

Get “The Purple Book” and go through it with someone.

“Everyone who is saved, baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit today should also become part of a church- a local community of believers. Why? Because we are not made to live the Christian life alone. We were not meant to follow God by ourselves.” – The Purple Book (p.68)

For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. (Romans 12:4-5 ESV)

Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth. (Malachi 2:15 ESV) But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. (1 Corinthians 6:17 ESV)

We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. (Hebrews 6:11-12 NIV)

But we know that there is only one God, the Father, who created everything, and we live for Him. And there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom God made everything and through whom we have been given life. (1 Corinthians 8:6 NLT)

There is only one God, and He makes people right with Himself only by faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles. (Romans 3:30 NLT)

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (Galatians 3:27 ESV)

The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. (John 17:22-23 ESV) "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. (Deuteronomy 6:4 ESV)

 How do you see yourself fitting together with other followers of Jesus? Maybe you feel like you don’t fit? Why not?  What does it mean that “we are not meant to follow God by ourselves?” But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift. (Eph. 4:7)  Your piece represents the grace given to you by God. Keep it in a place where it will serve as a reminder to you of this last question: What will you do with your piece of God’s gift?
