Location of Rain Forests There are not many rainforest on earth. There are rainforest in South and North America, Asia, Africa, and Australia. There are three rainforests in South America.

Emergent Layer Not as many animals live in the Emergent layer. The Emergent layer are the trees that go above the canopy. A parrot, Harpy eagle, butterfly, and monkeys live there.

Canopy Layer Many animals live in the canopy layer. A lemur, macaw, monkey, orangutan, sloth, and jaguar live in the canopy. There is no wind under the canopy.

Understory Layer Many animals live in the understory such as the marmoset, lemur, iguana, and the chameleon. In the understory small bushes grow. The under story is about 30 feet up. The understory is under the canopy.

Forest Floor The forest floor is the last layer of the rainforest. The tiger, frog, caterpillar and more insects live in this layer. Not as many plants grow in the forest floor the forest floor because there is not much sunlight. The forest floor has no wind.

Deforestation Deforestation is bad for the earth. The rainforest makes most of our medicine, if we cut down the rainforest we wont have medicine. If we cut down the rainforest we will kill trees, and trees help us. There are four ways of deforestation: mining, cattle grazing, products to get the logs.

People of the Rain Forest There have been people living in the rainforest for thousands of years. The people in the rainforest only use what they need. Today, there may be 200 million people living in the world’s rainforests.

Tiger The tiger is an animal that lives in the forest floor. A tiger can grow to be 100 times bigger than a house cat. It will do a lot of the things a house cat does, but it will not purr.

Spider monkey There are several types of spider monkeys, and all are amazingly agile in the tree tops. They feed mainly on fruit and move in noisy, active groups in early morning and late afternoon.

Macaw Mother and father macaw have the most beautiful feathers in the forest. Young macaws stay with their family for about two or three years. Macaws are very colorful.
