© 2013 IBM Corporation 2 CEOs believe technology will be at the forefront of driving change through 2015* Is your storage infrastructure optimized for the greatest efficiency of all your applications and resources? Does your storage infrastructure enable you to provide rich, actionable insight? “71% of CEOs identify technology change as the most important external force impacting their organizations” * * IBM, Leading Through Connections: Insights from the Global Chief Executive Officer Study, May 2012. 78% CFOs report that pressure remains high to control costs and increase efficiency

© 2013 IBM Corporation 3 The real question Will your infrastructure block or enable change? Only 1 in 5 clients have highly efficient IT infrastructures allocating 50% more of their IT budget to new projects 1 1 IBM, Data center operational efficiency best practices, April 2012.

4 IBM Storwize Family Everything you need from your storage… and less Award winning simplicity Start Small & Scale-up Improve What You Have IBM & non-IBM Embedded Analytics Deploy Quickly & Flexibly Buy Less Storage Flash Optimized

© 2013 IBM Corporation 5 IBM Storwize Family Over 28,000 systems purchased Over 46,000 total enclosures deployed Over 625 PB of capacity Award winning reliability – Delivering 99.999% availability Packages  IBM SAN Volume Controller (Virtualization System; No Storage)  IBM Storwize V3700 (Entry)  IBM Storwize V7000 (Midrange) Integrated Options  IBM Flex System V7000 System Functions  Thin provisioning  IBM Real-time Compression  IBM Storwize V7000 Unified (File)  IBM SmartCloud Storage Access (Cloud)  Remote replication (synchronous and asynchronous)  Storage Virtualization (IBM and non-IBM) Field proven, highly efficient and super reliable * SOD for Storwize V3700 5x more data in the same space 3x performance with only 5% SSD 47% less management effort 30% lower storage growth Enabling clients to do more with less

© 2013 IBM Corporation 6 Key Virtualization Features Thin Provisioning Satisfy provisioning requests but allocate storage only when data is written Improve capacity utilization across the infrastructure Value: Purchase only the storage you need when you need it IBM Easy Tier SSD Management Busiest data automatically moved to highest performing Solid-state Drives Up to a 3x performance improvement with as little as 5% SSD Value: Optimized performance at lower overall cost Real-time Compression Buy and maintain less storage Compress active data up to 80% without application performance degradation For example, VMware ~75%, Database ~80%, Exchange ~50% Value: Store more data with less disk Without thin provisioning, pre-allocated space is reserved whether the application uses it or not With thin provisioning, applications can grow dynamically, but only consume space they are actually using Dynamic growth

© 2013 IBM Corporation 7 Key Management Features Practice Disaster Recovery Techniques Practice application recovery procedures Detect mirroring failure and automate failover Value: Train staff and prove business continuity plans work without disrupting applications Application-Aware Copies Integrated, instant copy for critical applications Rapidly create clones for application testing View inventory of application copies and instantly restore Value: Virtually eliminate application downtime for backup High Availability Configurations Synchronous and asynchronous mirroring between sites Real-time data mobility between sites complements VMware vMotion and PowerHA Live Partition Mobility Integrated management with practice support Automated fail-back after repair Value: Enable near-continuous data availability

© 2013 IBM Corporation 10 IBM Storwize family Real-time Compression database performance Storwize family Real-time Compression delivers up to 5x compression while maintaining or improving database transaction response time and Combine with flash for extraordinary business advantage The benchmark was performed using a Storwize V7000 system with 48 x 300GB SAS disks. 1.2TB database with 700 concurrent clients were used in the benchmark. The same test was performed with compressed volumes and non-compressed volumes. Stock Level Response Time in Seconds DeliveryOrder Status No Compression - 96 disks 1.144.857.468 0.8 1.2.4 Compressed – 48 disks.701.665.385.46.20.501 Compressed – 6 flash drives

© 2013 IBM Corporation 11 Real-time Compression Experiences Client comments –“It’s an exception to have a new piece of software work so well” –“This [beta test] was worth our time and we discovered that it really performs up to the marketing hype” Client compression achieved –VMware volumes: 76% –Oracle: as much as 90% –Lotus Domino: 70% Client performance experiences –Storwize V7000: Performance neutral –SVC: One client saw 2.5x better throughput with Real-time Compression for an Oracle workload
