2 I’m eating. We’re running. She’s eating. She isn’t reading. It’s raining. The sun isn’t shining. They’re running. They aren’t walking.

3 The Present Continuous is: am/is/are + doing/eating/running/writing etc. SubjectbeExamples I He She It You* We They am (not) - ing is (not) - ing are (not) - ing *You is either singular or plural. I’m working. I’m not listening to music. Chris is writing a letter. She isn’t eating. / She’s not eating. The phone is ringing. We’re having dinner. You’re not listening to me. / You aren’t listening to me. The children are doing their homework.

4 4 am/is/are + verb–ing = something is happening now: pastfuturenow I’m working. She’s wearing a hat. They’re playing football. I’m not watching TV.

5  Please be quiet. I’m working. = (I’m working now)  Look at Sue! She’s wearing her new hat. = (she’s wearing it now)  The weather is nice at the moment. It’s not raining.  `Where are the children?´ `They’re playing in the park.´  (on the phone) We’re having dinner now. Can you phone again later?  You can turn off the television. I’m not watching it now.
