You have until the 2 nd Bell to have the following on your desk:  Folder  Composition Notebook  Pencil  MAD HW WS

Bell-Ringer School Day: 137 March 23 rd, 2016 1.Evaluate:

Mean, Median, Mode, MAD Grudge Ball

How to play Each team get 10 “X’s” The teacher will post a question. Each person must be prepared to answer the question. The teacher will randomly choose a seat number with the randomizer. The student needs to be prepared to show the teacher the answer.

MUST SHOW NECESSARY WORK If the answer is correct you get a chance to earn more “X’s” by making a basket from the 2 or 3 point line You can take the X’s you earn from any team but yours The team with the most X’s wins

What are the two steps you follow to find the mean of a set of data? – Add the numbers together – Divide by the number of values in the data set

What must you do to the data before you can determine the median Arrange the numbers from least to greatest

When finding the median of a set of data with an even amount of data values, what needs to be done to the middle values? OR When finding the median of a set of data and you end up with two numbers in the middle, what needs to be done to the middle values? – Add the two numbers together and divide by 2 or average them

47, 46, 44, 93 Calculate the mean without the outlier Outlier is 93 47 + 46 + 44 = 137 137/3 45.66666666667

77, 75, 78, 76, 47 Calculate the mean without the outlier The outlier is 47 77 + 75 + 78 + 76 = 306 306/4 =76.5

{13, 15, 9, 35, 25} Find the mean of the given data 13 + 15 + 9 + 35 + 25 = 97 97/5 = 19.4

{6, 1, 3, 8, 5, 11, 1, 5} Find the mean 6+1+3+8+5+11+1+5=40 40/8 = 5

{13, 15, 9, 35, 25} Find the median of the given data 9, 13, 15, 25, 35

{6, 1, 3, 8, 5, 11, 1, 5} Find the median 1, 1, 3, 5, 5, 6, 8, 11 5+5=10 10/2=5

Sherry has an after-school job at Papa John’s. Her boss keeps track of how many pizzas she sells each day. During her last five days of work, she served 29, 58, 15, 75, and 22 pizzas. What is the median of the number of pizza’s Sherry sold? 15, 22, 29, 58, 75

34, 32, 30, 27, 38 Find the mean absolute deviation 34+32+30+27+38 = 161/5 =32.2 32.2 – 34 = l-1.8l 32.2 – 32 = 0.2 32.2 – 30 = 2.2 32.2 – 27 = 5.2 32.2 – 38 = l-5.8l 15.2/5 = 3.04

Jamie made 5 beaded necklaces in art class the necklaces used 99 beads, 80 beads, 94 beads, 83 beads, and 87 beads. Calculate the MAD of the number of beads used. 99 + 80 + 94 + 83 + 87 = 443/5 = 88.6 88.6 – 99 = l-10.4l 88.6 – 80 = 8.6 88.6 – 94 = l-5.4l 88.6 – 83 = 5.6 88.6 – 87 =1.6 31.6/5 = 6.32

Joe counted the number of letters in in 4 text messages that he received. He counted 22 letters, 29 letters, 34 letters and 25 letters. Calculate the MAD of the letter Joe counted 22+29+34+25=110/4 = 27.5 27.5 – 22 = 5.5 27.5 – 29 = l-1.5l 27.5 – 34 = l-6.5l 27.5 – 25 = 2.5 16 /4 = 4

Exit Slip 1.What is the Mean Absolute Deviation of the basketball players in Example A of your notes? 2.How does it compare to the MAD you already calculated for the soccer player in Example B?
